So with the success of Black Powder among our group I decided to test drive Hail Caesar. So I pulled out some 10mm Romans and a 10mm gallic army that Bob Henderson had painted years ago and did some quick rebasing. Decided that all units would be 80mm wide and either 40 or 60mm deep. Usually 40-60 figs per stand. ed up with 20 + stands of Romans and 26+ stands of Gauls. We really enjoyed Hail Caesar and the feel of almost a mini campaign on a 12x5ft table with 10mm. I will try and take better pics tomorrow during the second test of Hail Caesar.

Hey Joe! And yes your Romans looked quite nice and performed well for their first outing! Since the closing of Treefort, I've managed to get a few games together at my place. Got a 12x5 set up. Send me an email sometime, mfrang at bellsouth.net. You gaming much? |

Nice! When I get around to ancients again both 10mm and Hail Caesar look like a good way to go. Looking forward to pics of game 2. Thanks for sharing the pictures! |

We play in 15mm and liked the morale chart so much we customized it to use with Horse and musket as well, instead of the using black powder morale system. |

The hills look like some of Andrew Doyle's old work from years back. Nice layout. |

So over the weekend and into Monday, we ended up playing a total of 3 Hail Caesar games in all. First two games the Romans won pretty easily. Hard to beat the pilum and hv armor. By the third game, I had the Celtic villages hidden and ambushes scattered through the table. The villages would continue to produce warbands till the Romans put them to the torch. This was suggested by some of the players in Sundays game. Essentially it would keep the Romans moving rather than allowing them to just sit and take on all comers. Worked well, Mondays game was a bit of a draw. I really like Hail Caesar for big games especially at the smaller figure scales. Some better pics of the figs.
