I saw these at Britcon and was mightily impressed (I bought a copy for £40.00 GBP).

Generals get cards (the number of which are based on their command ability). Cards (of the right type) can be used to charge the enemy or make moves. A good compromise between, do whatever you want and die rolls to allow movement.

Combat uses a set of special dice, the colour of which (and hence their effectiveness) is determined by the advantage (or not) that you have in the combat. So combat results are nice and easy to determine.

I have seen a game played and its fast and a lot of fun. I can see MeG becoming one of the standard ancient rule sets. Simon Hall has done an excellent job with this set of rules.

The rules have just had their first full competition at Britcon with 16 players involved. All went very well, obvious little niggles over small detail and players not fully absorbing everything, but for a first full run out the only conclusion is a resounding success.
Mortem et Gloriam are very interactive, combining a card driven movement system with a unique set of shooting and combat dice.
For anyone trying them out I suggest working through the examples of play to pick up on the rationale of the game mechanics before even reading the rule text. A very useful website supports this at the wargames zone.
The proof of the pudding was that everyone had a great time and were keen for the next group experience, which will be a doubles event in late October in Daventry.
A new ancient rule set that are worth a close look.
