I ran a game of my "In Country" rules with the lads in Wheaton last night. We played 6 turns and will continue the game next week.
Scenario: Once again the ARVN intelligence leaks more than a screen rowboat. The search and destroy mission was ambushed, the ARVN bugged out and 3rd mechanized platoon was left isolated and blind. Lieutenant Janci checked his map and decided to make for a fortified village not too far away.
Determined to catch and destroy his unit, Liberation Forces have a full company prowling the jungle looking to pin and kill the Americans before air they get support.
A view of the table. Americans enter at the top and must reach the village in the lower right corner. Except for the roads the entire table counts as jungle. The wider roads are good going for tracks, the narrow are simply "open."
Another view of the table:
The Americans:
Turn 2/3: The US have been ambushed on the road. One track is dead (white puff) and the .50s are exchanging fire with the VC in the jungle. Most of the troops are still aboard the tracks.

Americans get ready to move to the flank. Dismounted Americans engage the VC. A turn later the tracks made a right turn down the side road.
A Gunship has just showed up for a major assist. The VC have taken very light casualties but are running out of RPG rounds….
View from the gunship. Pre-planned (basically blind) VC mortar fire is lighting up an empty road crossing….
Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion….
