Following up my prior post on the Russians, I am also looking for a recommended 28mm make of the Westphalian cuirassiers for use in a Borodino skirmish project. I know Elite makes them but I have never purchased Elite figures before (I am not sure of the quality). Thoughts or recommendations? Can the Perry plastic heavy cavalry work as a good substitute without much conversion work (I don't get too caught up in the details of exact uniform/equipment matches – I simply want to get miniatures on the table and game with my friends and kids). Again, your counsel, comments and advice are deeply appreciated. |

Elite are nice lively figures. In 15mm I converted some AB Saxon Heavy Cav into Westphalian Cuirassiers, Tally Ho! |

G'Day Nick I can see it now…a 15mm converted AB Saxon Heavy converted into a Westphalian Cuirassiers…riding next to a 28mm Westphalian cuirassiers ;-) Best Regards Art |

I'd have said the Perry French were close enough to regulation Westies--and probably closer than the historical Westphalians were by Borodino. But nothing wrong with Elite. |

Tricky one with lots of conflicting info especially for the (probably in 1812) white uniformed 1st Regiment- esp whether it wore a full cuirass of just breastplate. The horse furniture is French pattern with sheepskin and squared saddle cloth- quite a bit different from Saxon pattern. The Blue uniformed 2nd Regiment is easier- as sources agree much more. The uniform and horse furniture are those of the French Cuirassiers almost exactly. The only real (but visually very important) difference is the headgear. This was very similar basically to a French Cuirassier pattern helmet complete with bearskin band, but with a fur crest on top rather than a horse tail. So two good options for the 2nd regiment- both requiring just a bit of conversion. French Carabiniers with a bearskin band added in miliput etc to their helmet (easier but not quite so accurate). Or French Cuirassiers with the horsetail cut/filed off and a fur crest added (a bit harder more slightly more accurate) In 28mm, Perry Plastics are probably the best option- being easier to do either conversion. Trumpeters of the 2nd Regt wore (most but not all sources agree) a light cavalry pattern colpack. |

I'm quite sure that the Perry plastic heavy French cav also come with carabinier heads. They would be an easy conversion for the Westphalian headgear. |

Wouldn't Saxon cuirassier be the best starting point (Eureka in 28mm?) on French cuirassier horses? |

A very good question CCmatty, I have been struggling with this for years, I am not so good at conversion work (read horrible ) and so I am still looking for the ready made Westphalian cuirassiers, the elite figures in general do not appeal to me. Maybe we can launch a querry to the Perry's, they have done so many odd projects, why not these Westphalians. Alternatively there are the Steve Barber models of Westphalians, he wrote me the heavy cavalry will also be produced, only question is when? Hope some other option (non conversions) come out of this posting as these Cuirassiers played a crucial role in the 1812 campaign. |

conquerormodels.com Nice Saxon cuirassiers and GdC. Don't have to buy the horses, although they are quite nice. Designed to be compatible with Front Rank, but are good with Foundry. They have only breastplates so, if looking for that angle… |
