Hello, Did the Soviets have the equivalent of the M577? What, if anything, did they use for their equivalent of a TOC? Thanks! |

Soviets had a variety of command vehicles based on several different chassis for different uses. The BTR-60 was the most prevalent in terms of different command variants. Also the BMP-1, MT-LBu and various trucks. Different command vehicles show up throughout the Soviet TO&E depending on unit type and function. Most TOC type units in Motor Rifle and Tank formations at the battalion and regimental level would be the BTR-60PB Command Variant IIRC. Divisonal command was generally a mix of BTR-60 and Box/Command Trucks based on the KraZ or URAL. |

Depending on what scale you are doing, BTR-60 command vehicles are available across the board. From 3mm to 20mm easily, don't know about 25/28mm. |

Thanks for the quick response. I game in 1/285 and normally use GHQ. I will look for the vehicle types you mention. :-) |

there is a command version of just about all the apc's wheeled and tracked. and of course trucks had office bodies |

Don't think GHQ or CinC makes them however, may want to check Scotia and H&R. If nothing else, not a difficult conversion, just get a standard BTR-60PB (without turret), add generator and antennas.

To add: Checked and both H&R and Scotia make BTR-60 command variants. |

[/URL] Opposite the Gaz-66 (Mortars) are elements of a MRR HQ. Visible are a Ural and Zil 131 BBV, Mtlb (blade) and a BTR sticking his nose out of the shed. Also observed in the area was a BMP-1 Ksh. A Tank Regt would also have a command tank, Tally Ho! |

Thanks for checking Cold Warrior! I appreciate it. Off to Scotia… |

ACRVs? Can't recall if they used them for command and control, or more like artillery fire-control vehicles, but they were pretty prevalent back in the day, and I've seen them on various game tables in modern battle reports. I suspect they could be used in both roles. |
Cold Warrior | 18 Jun 2016 4:27 p.m. PST |
ACRV was only used for artillery command posts and fire control. |

the 1V series either MTLBu, BTR or Gaz 66 were all Arty OP/Command Post/Fire control. Tally Ho! |

Nick is correct, depending on specific artillery (SP, towed, air defense have different command vehicles). Mako was referring to (I believe) the MTLBu 1V ACRV, which is only found in artillery formations and not as a command post for Motor Rifle or Tank troops (which as Mako mentioned, I have seen many people use it as such). However GHQ and CinC at least make it if anyone needs arty command/fire control. |

Our unit had MTLBu command vehicle, but we were towed/SP artillery and most of our transport vehicles were also tracked due to location specifics. Motor rifle unit (our neighbours) had BTR. This search has pics of similar vehicles (ok it also has modern equipment, but I'm sure you can pick the right stuff) link |
