What's new about this book. I have read this many times over the years but what are the changes in the new version? Has anyone read it yet and is it worth getting.

Cold Warrior18 Jun 2016 11:52 a.m. PST

Curious about this as well.

paul liddle19 Jun 2016 4:11 a.m. PST

It's got T-64s in it instead of T-72s!.

Tgunner19 Jun 2016 5:26 a.m. PST

It won't be released until 7/11, so we have a little wait until questions can be answered.

Old Wolfman20 Jun 2016 7:18 a.m. PST

if they have updated the book does that mean the figures are now wrong? ;-)

Risaldar Singh21 Jun 2016 10:46 a.m. PST

Yep! Revised codex: obsolete model…

Tgunner21 Jun 2016 5:22 p.m. PST

Nah, still spot on for the original version, except we're missing the T62s!!! That's what I want to play, but I might checkout the new edition just to see what they changed, if anything.

$$$$$

I was wondering the same thing also. If there was any major changes like added scenes or we use M1A2s and if the Russians use T-80s. I plan on buying a copy if there are significant changes, but if it is still the same old story with minor changes then I will save the money.

Mako1119 Aug 2016 8:08 p.m. PST

T-64s???

Interesting………

Ive never read the book, and have of course learned the 'entire' game is based on book of the same name -Team Yankee-.

So if the book was based on "what they knew then" and now they have updated the book with more of "what we know NOW", like many of you, Im wondering; Will it / they make changes to 'either' the western or eastern forces in the game as well to go along with the updated info?

This shall be interesting.

Is this about the new version of the novel?

According to information that Battlefront has posted on their forum, the new version of the novel is 20,000 words longer. What exactly those extra words are doing I don't know. I don't think anyone at Battlefront really knows, either. But Battlefront did mention that at least some of the changes are due to Coyle the now veteran writer taking another look at what he wrote in his very first novel.

Hopefully, at least we'll get M60 machine gunners in the minis packs.

Lookingglassman02 Sep 2016 6:41 a.m. PST

Amazon already has them in stock. I ordered one and it is due to arrive 7 Sept.

Please make sure you post something about the book.

I bought the new and expanded "Historicon" version at Fredericksburg and devoured it. I don't have my original copy so I honestly can't tell you what was revised or new. The story line was pretty much the same, but just as exciting to read all these years later; some good maps that we're going to use to game out the period in microarmor. My big disappointment was the editing/proofreading…absolutely abysmal!! If you get annoyed by errors on almost every page, don't bother with it. It will drive you insane. There were times where I felt like I was reading one of those word puzzles where words are misspelled and grammar is off just to show you how your brain still reads it correctly. Perhaps they've fixed that if Amazon is selling it; I would hope their quality control would be better on that. Having said all that…it was a great read, kept me up at night reading even though I knew how it was going to end, and I can't wait to use it to put games on the table!

Oh yeah…I could tell you what vehicles they use, but that would be too much of a spoiler, wouldn't it? Haha…I'll give you a hint: they make them all in microarmor. Lol…

Irish Marine04 Sep 2016 1:13 p.m. PST

DAMN IT! I got all spun up for nothing. I was hoping you had solid info.

PIPERS04 Sep 2016 10:35 p.m. PST

T-62 and m60?

Lookingglassman06 Sep 2016 8:12 p.m. PST

I got my book today and I have to agree with Minis is my Waterloo, it is basically the same story so far. I am up to chapter 2 and really can't tell anything different in it. I am disappointed though because there are many grammatical errors in the book. Some sentences have extra words tacked on to them that throws the whole sentence off while reading it. I don't recall the original having this many errors in it. In hindsight I shouldn't of wasted my money because it really doesn't seem worth it.

Tgunner07 Sep 2016 2:06 p.m. PST

My copy looks clean. I got it at Historicon. Do you have have an electronic copy? Those are sometimes hosed up.

Irish Marine07 Sep 2016 3:19 p.m. PST

For the love of God if you read the original book and have the new one please tell us what's new.

Tgunner07 Sep 2016 3:37 p.m. PST

From what I've seen so far.. just two paragraphs added in the Foreward and dated January 2015. It explains why he used the M1/M113 combo and why the M2 was missing. Namely because he had finished his tour in Germany and the M1/M113 combo is what he had. It would be the 1988 before he got to see the Bradley in action.

That's pretty much it.

But it's a trade paper which means it's a bigger book. Bigger text is easier on my eyes and the maps are clearer to me than the old paperback. Not sure why it's "called revised and updated". Looks like the same book to me.

Irish Marine07 Sep 2016 4:05 p.m. PST

Cool. Thanks I probably won't get it unless he added more combat.

Lookingglassman08 Sep 2016 10:43 a.m. PST

Tgunner, I have the hardcover that just came out with the M1 Abrams firing on the cover. Yeah there are many sentence structure mistakes in it. He adds extra words to a sentence that don't need to be there or he leaves out a word that would make the sentence flow better.

There really isn't anything new in the book except for the Forward that is added to the beginning of the book like Tgunner said.

The story is still the same, though.
