Pretty simple, I think. If you paint your own figures, would you game more if you collected fewer time periods or armies? For me, probably so. I tend to collect large 25mm armies, but I am trying to scratch my itch by working on small DBx size armies. I am also thinking about some skirmish projects and 15mm projects rather than the "I need at least 600 figures to play a game" projects. I have the luxury of being able to set up and leave a table for as long as I want to so, when I find myself painting, I could be doing 30-60 minutes of solo gaming. |

Nope ,I am hopeless ,I want to game it all ,all scales mainly 28mm.I like the odd quirky campaigns. |

Probably, at least probably more solo games to learn the rules. I'm kind of caught in the middle just now, approaching retirement, so I need to buy and paint the armies I've always wanted but never got around to--last chance, and all that. I have looked at a lot of armies I thought I wanted, and realized I didn't really want them that much any ore, and I've stricken them from my list. Grelber |

No, paint time never interferes with game time. |
Dynaman8789 | 16 Jun 2016 6:52 p.m. PST |
Same as Cyrus, painting/basing/prep time is anytime not playing. |
Saber6 | 16 Jun 2016 7:00 p.m. PST |
I'd probably play more if there were people to play with |
Winston Smith | 16 Jun 2016 7:11 p.m. PST |
No. I'm far ahead of my painting with stock to play with. |

I certainly find that focusing my energy on fewer projects, and smaller games has meant more energy to paint, because the lead mountain is not so overwhelming as before. Game time is not any more than it was before, but my time spent painting has greatly increased. |

Nope. At this point I'm "done" beyond the odd scenic bit or occasional vehicle. And I'm part of three gaming groups, cons and pick up games, so many times I play with other pople's stuff. Right now I game 3-4 times a month, not counting solo play. |

I probably wouldn't game any more. I have itches to do certain things at certain times and if I don't have the figures I have to paint them. If I already have the figures then I don't, I can just play. |

If I had to choose between spending my time painting or spending that same time getting a game in, I would choose the get a game in. That said, I have a bunch of miniatures (for both sides) for multiple games so that really isn't an issue for me. There are two reasons I would choose painting over gaming: 1) I am starting a new game of something, just got the miniatures and haven't painted them yet. As I am pretty content with the games I have I don't see this being an issue. Or the game has so small miniature count that I could probably get them looking tabletop ready in a week. 2) I don't really want to play any of the available opponents. I tried pick-up style play last year at a gaming store and didn't find it to my liking (and the store is about 40 miles away). I am finding myself more interested in gaming with a group I know pretty well and have the ability to generate scenarios rather than show up with X number of points of something and have at it. I have also been slowly getting a friend of mine to miniature war game. He is my second favorite opponent just behind another player that despite are playstyle differences are dead even in skill (nearly all of our games come down to the last few die rolls). |

Certainly not. My painting is therapeutic so is never a factor in my gaming. |
raylev3 | 16 Jun 2016 10:06 p.m. PST |
My gaming is impacted by the availability, or not, of players, and not by my figure painting. In fact, for me, it's the other way around. I tend to paint and build units when I have fewer gaming opportunities. So I guess it's safe to say that it's my gaming that interferes with my painting….although I would much rather play more. |

No. Gaming is a different activity to painting (or reading or putting toys in boxes). |

Pretty much what Martin said. I do almost all of my gaming at a club, and I can be sure of a game almost every week. Not being able to concentrate on a period/set – that's the problem. |

Fewer armies? They would just be bigger ones then, so no change. |
Oh Bugger | 17 Jun 2016 4:45 a.m. PST |
I would game more but the lead pile is there and I enjoy painting. |
45thdiv | 17 Jun 2016 5:34 a.m. PST |
I don't think so. I thought I was done with my 28mm ACW armies 15 years ago, but new figures come out and I end up buying more figures to paint. |
etotheipi | 17 Jun 2016 5:54 a.m. PST |
No. I would game more proxy armies. |
kallman | 17 Jun 2016 7:08 a.m. PST |
No I do not think it would make a difference. As others have stated the painting while part of the hobby is but one aspect of the enjoyment. |
avidgamer | 17 Jun 2016 7:35 a.m. PST |
No. I would love to game more but fitting my hectic schedule into my friends' free time is always a problem I suffer with. |
Inkpaduta | 17 Jun 2016 11:01 a.m. PST |
I would like to think so. Often I am buying more and more stuff and don't feel like I am making great use of earlier periods I purchased. I wish I wasn't such a wargaming butterfly. |

I've got so much painted stuff for so many periods the problem is actually getting some periods on the table at intervals shorter than about 10 years. |
