I wanted to see if there would be any interest in a small medieval "convention" (really more of a game day here in the Indianapolis area. The basic idea that I am thinking about is to get a block of rooms at one of the Indy area hotels and reserve one of the rooms for a Saturday. People could contact me ahead of time with their armies, scale and rules they prefer, and we match up gamers based upon that. We might get 2 or 3 (or even more) games in for the day and then everyone could stay the night at the hotel. I would make sure that there was a restaurant/lounge in the bar or several within waling distance. I would hope to limit the rules to maybe 6 or 7 seven sets depending upon attendance and requests. I think that I could get at least 3 or 4 of my local guys to come and we have multiple armies ourselves. Fee would be just enough to cover the gaming area that was reserved, so based upon attendance I was hoping like $10 USD a person or so, but I really have no idea until I do some homework on it.

Any interest?

Thanks – Allen

Not meaning to sound snarky, but isn't that what Gen Con is?

Except GenCon is $55 USD for the day and you pay more to play in games.

Gen Con is a huge convention that covers mostly fantasy and role playing, this is specific to medieval gamers and would cost very little. It would be a 1 day games day more than a con really.

Wow, GenCon sounds overpriced to me……..

Allen: I'm interested. Not a period I game so I have no armies to bring but I would play (and pay).

A few years back I ran a small "con" just for Johnny Reb in Cincinnati. It was actually not that hard. You just have to find an affordable room/meeting hall. Besides hotels, check the VFW, Elks, etc. They often have halls to let.

Thanks Mark, I'd be happy to fix you up with some troops! I will do a little research and bring it up again.

I live near Indianapolis and would be interested. It depends on what you consider Medieval. My most "medieval" army would be Patrician Roman or Romano British.

You can get GenCon passes for $90 USD for all 4 days right now. I love GenCon, I go almost every year. It's about a 12 hour drive from where I live. I will say the historical games are limited, however they have plenty of room if someone felt so inclined as to start up a game. There is free table space as well and the dealer hall alone is worth the entry fee.

I live in Louisville : I would just about walk to that show! Saga- Lion Rampant- a little LOTR and maybe game of thrones too. Hell yeah……

I'm in Indy, and while I'm in the same boat as Extra Crispy (no minis for that period), I'd show up to play for $10 USD or so. Could probably get one of my kids there, too.

Thanks everyone, stay tuned. I'll do some investigation and post an update if this thing gets some legs.
