Hi guys,

Like many of you, I've ended up with some unwanted metal over the years. Some of it is flash filed and carved off figures while cleaning them up. Some of it is wargame figures with their muskets snapped off or otherwise damaged. More than a little of it is unusable sample figures. This is the kind of thing I really can't sell or swap with anyone else.

A couple decades ago, some local guys got interested in doing their own casting. At the time, I gave them my leftover metal, which they were able to use for their own projects.

Is there anyone out there who might be interested in acquiring unwanted metal scraps for the sake of home casting, maybe even for free? I must have a couple pounds worth of metal from more than one manufacturer. I know this must sound really OCD, but on the other hand, "waste not, want not."

Let me know what you think!

Do you have any black powder hunters you know? They could cast up some shot for their guns.

or you could just use the figures and stuff as they are for the ammunition in a DIY blunderbuss, as seen on the tv show Preacher.

Yea, taking advice on the proper use of firearms from a TV show sounds like a good idea. After all, what could go wrong? grin

A little late for you now, but Reaper (in Denton) used to give you credit towards new figures for filings and sprues from their figures, and (possibly) from a few other companies who use the same alloy.

Most of the newer "lead" is actually a mix of metals & too hard for use as musketballs. I've used mine to cast figures in the past. I have mixed figure extras with real lead to cast balls for my black powder rifles.

If it's this Preacher then you're taking firearms advice from a televisionized comic.

To the OP … local artist community?

Put anything that is usable into a pile with a rough count and sell them on line as a bundle.
Sell those that aren't useful as weights for some of the plastic tanks?

Sell those that aren't useful as weights for some of the plastic tanks?

Odd bits of weight hidden in the base can help with top heavy minis. And static model aircraft with tricycle landing gear can be made to stand level with weight to the front.

I don't know how much money could be made, as fishing line weights are cheap enough to not hunt down the one that got away.

So are BB's and .177 pellets…I've used both to weight
aircraft and AFV's…

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have always saved my flashings. I have around a pound of it but have in the back of my mind a idea, you know in The Patriot Mel Gibson melts his sons figure to make musket balls? I have a bullet mold for my Brown Bess and very soon going to try casting balls in which I'm going to throw my flashing in.
