I am a HARDCORE blood Bowl fan. I have been playing the game scince the first edition(paper standups). With the game soon to be re released, and the hype thats being generated over it, and with the plethera of other fantqasy sports games out these days, I was thinking we maybe might like a fantasy sports board. It would include: Blood Bowl Elf Ball Grind DeathBall RullerBall Guild Ball ScrumBall KaosBall Tutalis SluaghterBall DreadBall And I'm sure I've missed a few. What does everyone think? Bill? |

I've crossposted this to the Poll Suggestions board, and we'll eventually have a vote! |

I thought Quidditch was a fantasy sport. |
Winston Smith | 15 Jun 2016 6:30 p.m. PST |
Quidditch is not a sport. It's a plot device to make a nerd look like a hero by sneaking at the last minute and wiping out all the hard work the real athletes have put in for the first 58 minutes. |

Add Grav Ball. 15mm miniatures game from I think FASA in the 1980s |

Winston --Apparently,some people didn't get the memo: youtu.be/taDda9lLaEw Anyway, I was merely highlighting the fact that the term "fantasy sport" may connote a wider variety of things than the OP intended, which appears to be "a miniatures game based on an imaginary sports game". Wouldn't you call an invented sport in a fantasy novel a "fantasy sport"? If not, what would you call it? You might think it absurd (as do I),but "plot device"(though I agree with you there, too) is not a very useful term. That's just its function in the books, which are full of them. Of course,as the video shows, a "fantasy sport" can bleed over into the "real" world, assuming what those people are doing is real,or at least, that they think it is. Or that we think it is! There are several more categories for you! I guess in the end,it may come down the question of whether any game is "real". Is football "real"? How about cricket? The same applies to refighting Gettysburg,of course…but I digress. I always wanted to try Hussade, invented by Jack Vance--not real, certainly. Or is it? youtu.be/yMhalsbyA2M Looks like it might be less ridiculous – looking in "reality" than Quidditch, anyway. Edit: Hey, I forgot Jugger! Where would you put that? youtu.be/QHKyepF0Tzc |

Good idea! The genre doesn't really fit into any of the existing boards that well. |

Thanks to thse who had an answer. Seems like a few just want to derail. |

How about Lingerie League? if that's not a fantasy sport nothing is. |

John/Winston, Did you read the descriptions in the books or watch the movies? There was a fair amount of physical contact and avoiding contact from opponents and Budgers (?) buzzing through the air. Try sticking to the subject and not venting your spleen and prejudices. |

Filed a complaint on myself. No regrets. |

Yes,a bit severe,MB. I can't speak for Winston, of course, but,for those who may not go there,I guess he was just continuing the discussion from the Sports board on TMP Plus: TMP link Not trying to derail,John, just trying, ineptly perhaps,to point out that some might expect a board called "Fantasy Sports" to contain something different from what you have in mind. I certainly have nothing against your idea;in fact,a Quidditch game with miniatures would fit in,wouldn't it? And what about miniatures football? Would that be allowed, without a "fantasy" element? How about calling it "Miniatures Sports Games"? |
etotheipi | 16 Jun 2016 4:45 p.m. PST |
Sure. In this case I think both the miniatures and the rules aspect have significant differences with other genres to merit separate discussion. Also … Troll Ball |
john lacour | 16 Jun 2016 6:42 p.m. PST |
Funny you mention troll ball. ' RAFM maade a snake man team for that game, and I have them in my collection. |
Tommy20 | 16 Jun 2016 7:34 p.m. PST |
Wessex Games has a fantasy soccer/football game called Futbowel. |
MacrossMartin | 17 Jun 2016 4:37 a.m. PST |
I agree with H von S. I'd suggest the board be named something like 'Sportsgaming' or 'Sports in Miniature'. 'Fantasy Sports' clearly means something very different to many people. And it would give me an outlet for my Rollerball rules that use X-Wing dice… :D And for my Tronball game… And my 1/100 scale Formula D… … I think I might like this board! |
Inkpaduta | 17 Jun 2016 10:51 a.m. PST |
Don't forget Batt Ball. the figures are done by CP Models. There are no official rules yet but if you e-mail them they will send you the unofficial rules. Think doing for baseball what blood bowl did for football. |
Andy Skinner | 17 Jun 2016 1:57 p.m. PST |
Is the fantasy part the important detail? Or the sport? THW has: Friday Night Fights Win or Go Home Red Streets, Blue Mats The Beautiful Game There was another soccer game out around the same time as The Beautiful Game, but I don't remember its name. Do they count? andy |
john lacour | 17 Jun 2016 2:59 p.m. PST |
Macross Martin, My friend has made a very good rollerball rules(sometimes he runs it at hcon) What are your rules? |
MacrossMartin | 17 Jun 2016 8:34 p.m. PST |
John, My Rollerball rules are very much a 'work in progress' which, like your friend's, may see the light of day for a convention soon-ish. I found some 54mm American football players who will be getting rollerskates and studded gloves sometime soon, although suitable 1/32nd motorcycles are proving more elusive. Andy – are you thinking of Corner Kick from TVAG? There's also Subbuteo of course. No dice involved, but no-one can deny that it's a sport game played with miniatures! |
john lacour | 18 Jun 2016 9:03 a.m. PST |
Toughest part with any rollerball miniatures game is building the track. |
jefritrout | 20 Jun 2016 8:57 a.m. PST |
You are all forgetting the Wally Simon classic JAHRU – The Game of Death. A cross between blood bowl, team handball and basketball. Yes Corner Kick came out the same time as the Beautiful Game and still is being run at all the HMGS East Coast conventions as well as most of the HMGS South conventions. |
