Most relevant and interesting bug attack yet!:)

Great to see the old SD 3 to 1 minis again, Leland – any chance they might even be released again? :)

Yeah, are they refound moulds, refound stock, or refound models you painted long ago, and are just for teasing us?

I didn't think you were THAT sick a puppy, mind you…

Are the 3 to 1 just larger scaled models or are they more accurate portrayals of ships that are supposed to be bigger than the standard sized fighters?

Excuse me? I am indeed that sick a puppy! As innocent as a newborn baby T-rex and you know it!evil grin

They're a mix of refound stock I painted recently, some older models from my collection, and we have masters for all but three of the original Terran ships previously produced in 3 to 1 size, plus a number never before released, plus *all* of the Night Brood ships…

Are the 3 to 1 just larger scaled models or are they more accurate portrayals of ships that are supposed to be bigger than the standard sized fighters?

They're larger sized renderings of the ships. Visually they're impressive to say the very least. Our hope is to finalize logistics and especially a reliable resin caster to handle our production. Once we're sure of that, we can move forward returning these models to the market, and releasing those that previously did not see the light of day.

Stay tuned…

For an idea of scale would these work as fighters/fighter bombers for 6mm?

That might depend upon the specific ship, as some are clearly more like 1/144 scale, while others are more scale neutral. The Shryak Shuttle for example is scale neutral enough that depending upon how you paint the bubble windows, you could use it as a 6mm assault lander/shuttle/small merchant ship, for 10mm, and perhaps in several instances you'll find others that will pass muster as 15mm one-person light craft.

I'll be shooting more photos in the coming week or so and posting them on our Metal Express FaceBook page, our Instagram feed, and in the Metal Express home page's Gallery Kagetora, so stay tuned…

Specifically the one in pictures
2898
2885
Was hoping for close air support.
Beautiful models either way.

Also tried finding you on Facebook but no joy.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP21 Jun 2016 5:48 a.m. PST

I'm pretty sure the 2898 is a Pit Viper (0611), link , a relatively small fighter, and probably quite good for your needs, though I've seen folks use the regular Silent Death for such duty.

You'd think the tiny Spirit Rider would be ALL wrong, but I've found that flyers over the battlefield look right if wrongly small.

I think the 2885 are Kosmos (0614), link , a longer bodied fighter, but I think looks 'in scale' with the Pit Viper.

Now, about those 3 to 1s, the Beastly One is correct. 2898 is the Pit Viper, while 2885 is the Kosmos. The Pit Viper is rather a small craft but the canopy bubble is big enough to squeak past as a very small 15mm aerospace craft. The Kosmos is probably much better, being larger and having larger wings with room underneath for adding underwing ordinance.

Hope this help!

Whoops, should have pointed out I was giving the link to the store and the 'regular' sized figs.

Call me Captain Thinks-Obvious-What-Isn't.

While it's a lot of looking to find what you want, it IS the exhaustive list, as far as I can tell.

Hey, gang,

yeah, we know this unwelcome news. The issue is two jumps above Sheldon and I on the chain of command, and is scheduled to be corrected in a day or two. Stay tuned, as we will be back once the "technical difficulties" are resolved…

In other news, we have been laboring behind the scenes on the various threads related to Silent Death, including continued discussion and research into using Kickstarter or a similar crowdfunding platform to bring back to the faithful masses a Silent Death boxed starter set, physical books, and new models…

Bob Runnicles27 Sep 2016 1:42 p.m. PST

If you do go the kickstarter route, I assume the core game rules would remain the same, correct? I ask because while I was initially drawn to X-Wing I find myself now getting kinda overwhelmed with all the cards, tokens and other crap required to play and I long for the simplicity of just having a status sheet instead lol. I think you will find Silent Death back on the table at my local club sooner rather than later!

BlackWidowPilot Fezian27 Sep 2016 10:33 p.m. PST

Bob,

our only plan is to modify the Ship Design Rules found in the Core Rulebook in some subtle but significant ways, and bring the Core Ships displays into line with the Design System, establishing a coherence that previously did not exist in Silent Death: The Next Millennium. In doing so, we would skew the Core Ship designs to both follow the updated design system, yet retain as much of their original "flavor" as possible.

What would change can best be summed up as (1) six-gun turrets on fighters, (2) armor aka Damage Reduction too slot cost heavy to be feasible as even a reasonable feature on a reasonably large and heavy ship, and (3) practical limits on how big a gun can be crammed into a gun turret on a fighter or gunboat.

Oh, and Defensive Values for a few categories of ship templates would drop a notch as well, but not by more than one level.

This is the extent of what is planned, but as you can see there will be some considerable work required behind the scenes as the updated ship designs are integrated with the Ship Display Sheets.

The biggest changes will come in updating and adding some maturity of thought, design, and presentation to the background stories and House profiles. After all, 9,000 years hence is a long ways away from our present paradigm, and a lot can happen in 9,000 years when humans are involved… evil grin

BlackWidowPilot Fezian17 Oct 2016 12:46 p.m. PST

LOL!!! I need a meme of a flight of Silent Death fighters flying in formation against a starfield backdrop with the speech bubble coming out of the cockpit of the rearmost bird demanding to know, "Are we there yet?!"

We're still banging away on the problem. Remember, we all have full-time careers/assorted gigs to deal with first, much as we want to be full-time purveyors of space fighter minis and cool game rules to go along with them…

Blackstar,

getting closer! Lots of photos to shoot for the new online store, plus content generation, etc. We're pushing plenty hard, 'though, and making progress! If the evil gods of an uncaring universe are kind, we may very well be launching the new site by Nov. 1 at the very latest!

Stay tuned, gang! evil grin

Nope, just don't see it. ;->=

Well done on the images of painted ships; do you still have the line drawings?

Questions for later, maybe much: How about more images per page, and when will we see the OP items in store?

Doug

BlackWidowPilot Fezian06 Nov 2016 1:28 p.m. PST

Doug,

still banging away. Yes, we have the line drawings. Thanks re: the ship photos, and more will come as we move further along!

As for the 3-to-1 models, that's down the road in 2017 to be realistic. First of all I am going to shoot some much better pix of the ones I have painted up, including comparison shots with the regular 1/450 scale metal minis and post those on our FB and Instagram feeds.

So we are on the case, its just that we keep hitting some friction that has stymied our desired relaunch date. That said, we should have things hashed out and up and running some time this week, as we are ever so close!

Stay tuned…
