I recently re-read Alan Hamilton's 'The Night Belongs to Charlie' in Wargames Illustrated #18. As I can't quite get my mind around the firing procedure (p. 24) I'm wondering if anyone has played or even recalls the rules? |

I don't have the Part 1 of the rules, only Part 2 and some of the subsequent articles A Hamilton wrote for WI. As I recall (I played the rules 20 years ago) the firing procedure for automatic weapons was a 1d10 roll with various modifiers, many negative. If the final number was positive then that was the number of hits scored, the hits being shared between the initial target and any nearby targets. There was then a second die roll to determine the effect of each hit. For non-automatic weapons the range band gave the base number needed to be rolled on 1d10 to score 1 hit and again modifiers were applied. They weren't a bad set of 1:1 rules skirmish rules. |

JCD1964, Thanks for the insights. So just to clarify (sorry – game rule OCD): Sarge has a M16 and firing at range band two (D-4). Roll d10 – 4 (and any others mods). Result will be -3 (so no hits) to 6 hits. If any hits roll d10 -3 STR to determine effect. Sound about right? |

Yeah, that's the way I played it. |
