I just did a light-hearted little blogpost about my rebasing and merging of several WSS collections into one (two, actually) armies. For your viewing pleasure:

Thanks for looking, and good gaming!

The pics of the massed armies look great! While deciding which way to go, keep in mind that you should have Danes and Prussians for the Allied army. And do you have the Swiss and Irish for the French?

My gut impulse would be to sell those (very nice) "others" and use the money to buy more Baccus. Nothing against the Others: in fact I have some on the painting table myself right now. And I have Baccus. I just don't like to blend them in one army. That said, they look much closer than I thought they would on the thicker base.

In the end, the only person you have to please is yourself. Look over a battalion or so. If you say to yourself "next year I won't notice" go with what you've got. If you say "it's always going to bother me a little" sell the others before you put time and money in rebasing.

But either way, very nice armies. Toss some Austrians in with the British and Dutch along with the proposed Danes and Prussians. You'll need them to balance out the Spanish on the French side who go with the Swiss and Irish.

And don't forget the Hanoverians! (And the Pfalz!)
And…!

If you have a copy of MWAN 113,there's a pretty extensive OB for Blenheim by Charles Sharp--Oh! How could I have forgotten Hesse-Kassel? I've been trying to nail down the info on them for months! 6(or 7) foot regiments, plus some horse. There are some uniform and flag plates on the War Office.uk site,if you haven't seen it:

Its a matter of taste I know but in the interests of balance I would like to register a vote for the 'other' manuafacturer – neat and nicely proportioned.

Hesse-Kassel

Infantry – Wartensleben, Schopping, Stuckrad, Prinz Wilhelm, Leib, Erbprinz and Grenadiers.

Cavalry – Erbprinz Dragoons, Spiegel Karabiniers, Leib Horse

Hi Rob, I recognize those figures!!! Disagree with the above…the Heroics and Ross Rock…well done sir!!!!

Hey Roger, how are you?! Yes, as you well know I have quite the collection of those troops! Please remind me…WSS or SYW? I'm sincerely hoping the latter, because what true gamer wouldn't want Wss AND syw in 6mm?!

Meanwhile, my Australian friend sent me a package with enough troops to form an additional 6 infantry units. That brings John Churchill's army to 24 foot vs 28 French/Bavarian. That's close enough. A few more weeks and I'llbe posting a blog on my first WSS game in forever.

And thanks everyone for the very welcome comments. I am not going to mix figures, probably will do the 6 new foot as Hesse Cassel, and if the H&R figs turn out to be SYW…my wife will not be very happy with me!

Glad the package arrived safely – reinforcements in the nick of time. Sounds to me like you are a master of the 'happy wife, happy life' balance! Looking forward to seeing that first game – my lot (now yours) have been itching to take the field for a couple of years! If only I could have posted you the half Vauban fort I was building to add some colour to the corner of the table. Cheers Alan

I had a similar issue with my ACW. I had a pretty large Confederate army and half a dozen Federal regiments of H+R, nicely painted and based. I then acquired a lot of Baccus and Adler figures- they are now the bulk of my Federals. Height difference is not really noticeable when they are all deployed. Go with what you have got, the more figures the better.

Hello Minis is my Waterloo!

Well you have certainly made the right move by simply putting the shorter figures on a taller/thicker base. Few people will notice unless you tell them. Although my preference is Baccus I have a very large 6mm collection that includes the big four (Adler, Baccus, H&R, Irregular). Some are taller then others but when your table is full of figures people only really notice if a shorter unit is right beside a taller one. Even then often they don't or even care as generally their too wrapped up in the game.

Best regards,

Glenn
