Hi all,

Other than Caesar Miniature's excellent range of Ancients, in particular their Egyptians, does anyone else make 1:72 Egyptian figures, whether in metal, or resin, or plastic?

Thanks
Ryan

There are the Atlantic/Nexus sets.

Newline Designs has some in their 20mm range. I don't know about their ancients, but their 20mm colonials go fine with my 1/72 plastics.

Atlantic/Nexus have some very nice chariots.
You might want to look here as well.

Newline: I *have* supplemented my largely plastic armies with their NKE figures. Pretty good. I'm about to buy more.

With due respect to Bathy, the Atlantic chariots are difficult to crew with two figures. It's tight.

Bashytubits13 Jun 2016 6:02 p.m. PST

Not if you trim the bases on them. I have them and they are very nice, I did however trim the bases a wee bit and then they fit fine. I mean the bases on the crew figures, no trimming needed on the chariots.

Thinking outside the elliptoid!. Well done, Bathy.

There is also an Egyptian box by Zvezda. Figures are nice but very large comparing to Caesar and Newline.

If you are looking for wargame figures then Zvezda is what you want. Perfect mix of spearmen, axe men, archers and Nubian mercenaries. I think they are close enough in size to Ceasar to be on the table together but I don't have them mixed in the same unit. Check out plasticsoldierreview.com for comparison.

HaT makes Nubians and Sea People – part of the Egyptian armies, especially Nubians.

And Caesar's Libyans can be added as mercenaries.

About 50% of my NKE are foreigners (Nubians, Sherdan, Libyans, Syrians).
Is this wildly incorrect?

MichaelCollinsHimself15 Jun 2016 8:45 a.m. PST

The spearmen are a mixture of Zvezda Egyptian infantry and Caesar`s Egyptians …the Javelin skirmishers are Caesar Biblical Lybians and Zvezda Egyptians:

Egyptian chariots = Atlantic Egyptian cavalry
Numidians Light Horse = Hat.
Egyptian cavalry = converted Hat Numidians with Caesar bodies & saddle cloths added.

Atlantic Egyptians – I`ve used these a levy spearmen, javelein skirmishers and bows:

Can't remember name. German company has some metal ones done recently

All,

Thanks a lot for the responses. I will be honest, I'm not a fan of the Atlantic / Nexus figures. And the Zvezda ones are HUGE; I had to get rid of the box I bought as they didn't look right next to the Caesar ones.

I have quite a few boxes of the Caesar/Hat Nubians, Sea Peoples/Philistines, Sherden and Libyans as allies and enemies.

MCH: that is an amazing looking army!

Colin: I found these in my browsing, are they the ones you mean: link

Does anyone know how they match with the Caesar stuff?

MichaelCollinsHimself16 Jun 2016 10:22 a.m. PST

Thanks Ryan,
Those Egyptians in the link above look great – wish that I had known about them before… or that the figures available to me had looked like this:

Spearmen poses are something that I need more of. I'm hoping to pick some of those metal figures up before long, so hopefully they'll scale well.

Definitely going to use the Numidian cavalry as scouts though.

Just need to work out a the skin tones properly too…

PAul: I've long admired your Egyptian army!

This was a show game we did a few years ago:

In consultation with my pals we may do a bigger & better game featuring NKE & Assyrians next year.

MichaelCollinsHimself17 Jun 2016 2:25 a.m. PST

Ochoin, Great looking game!
Scenics:
I like the way you`ve done the water effect in the game – very simple and effective.
Where did you get the plastic sheeting from ?
Mike.

Brummie Lad17 Jun 2016 5:59 a.m. PST

That is an absolutely cracking looking game!! grin

The sheeting is just a transparency from a newsagent.

Our "terrain guy" has moved on from this & his current water features are just brilliant.

As "advertised" we may well do a mega-game next year which may feature a bigger naval battle as well as the conflict on land. So "Watch This Space".

MichaelCollinsHimself18 Jun 2016 1:44 a.m. PST

Ochoin,

I`ve tried looking for the transparency, but I`m not sure if it`s polypropylene, or acetate, or whatever… It looks to be about about 1-2mm thick ?
I can`t think if there are any newsagents in my area with this as display material that might be surplus to requirements.

Anyhow, a question if I may, about how it was done…
Seems to have been layered somehow, in the channels made in the terrain mat, to produce varying depth and "blueness" – with more sheeting used underneath the top sheet ?

Mike.

Dont forget about Out Of Production but cheap Egyptian Army Arcane Legions:

You may even buy them prepainted. And they have also a lot of fantasy figures like lion riders, mummies etc.

Brummie Lad22 Jun 2016 5:49 a.m. PST

Umpapa: they certainly add a new dimension. I didn't realise that they were 1:72 scale though.I'll see if I can pick some up on the cheap grin
