Not the best chapter…

Good performance from Arya… good ambush…

Jaime got his castle without a single casualtie, Danny is back just in time for the Battle and the Hound may find some weird partners…

But some questions fly in the air…

Which are Varys mission?… Did he know in advance of the attack of Mereen?… if not… his little birds are not working well…

Is the Blackfish really dead… or his men allow him to scape?

What is Qyburn talking about?… maybe the vast store of wildfire under the capital?… Cercei would do what the Mad King cannot did?… remember that Bran Stark has likely foreseen such a holocaust…

The Brotherhood with the Hunt… to were they march?…

Question: If Cersei loses her trial, isn't Tommen declared a bastard and then no longer king??

Seems that in the next chapter we will see a great battle… exist it in the books?

John?? (smile)

There are no more books!

The show is all there is now. If GRRM writes more, that's fan fiction.

Winston Smith13 Jun 2016 5:30 a.m. PST

Exactly. The show is now canon.
The proper question in the future will be "Was that in the show?"

wminsing13 Jun 2016 6:12 a.m. PST

I'm not sure I agree with that; the show *already* deviated from the books before they ran out of book. Is Sansa going north to marry Ramsey now canon, and the book version of the same events not? I don't think so.

But a better episode than the last few, at least.

I feel it was the worst episode of the series. That aside, I'll throw in on the questions:

I think Varys is off to Dorne to tie the Sand Snakes back into the story line.

The Blackfish is dead, with no army to march north to help Jon and Sansa what use would he be.

Qyburn, who knows, I thought they used all the wildfire to defend Kings Landing. But, they'll make up whatever they want to drag the plot along.

With Dondarrion still alive, Lady Stark is gone and not leading the Brothers. As they follow the Red God they will fall into the camp of Jon and Sansa eventually.

Questions I have are:

Will the Greyjoys arrive at Meeren during or after the battle?

I haven't seen many Northerners that appear concerned that "Winter is Coming". Down South I could understand its a proximity thing, but, gadzooks, doesn't anyone read their Ravens?

So the girl has a name, woo hoo. Wonderous healing from an actress who at least died and it sort of looks like an accident instead of an assassination. Do you think Arya is going to run back into the Hound? (dripping sarcasm)

I like the look on Danaerys's face. "What have you been up to while I've been away?"

A girl runs pretty well for someone who was gut stabbed several times only a day or so before.

Are the writers now determined to make Lady Brienne completely useless? I have to imagine Gwen Christie reading the scripts and thinking, "Really? For god's sake, can't my character get one victory?" Her entire sidetrip was now basically a waste (though she gets to keep her nifty zombie killing sword).

Tyrion has been basically useless since he killed his dad. The only scene he actually got to do anything was the dragon scene where he pulled off the shackles. Beyond that he drinks a lot and opines. He has a great future as a cable news political commentator.

Jon Snow looks completely lackluster in the coming show next week. Would you follow Captain Emo into battle? The preview practically has him giving a stirring speech of 'Um, guys, let's win, ok?'

Thank God for the hound's return. At least one character still seems pretty sure of what his role is- point him at something to whack, and he whacks it.

I really didn't like most of the episode. And since Varys is one of my favorite characters, I'm excited that he gets to do something again.

Spoiler alert? How about showing some consideration for the viewers who haven't seen this season yet? Thanks!

Wait, you jumped into a discussion about the latest episode and expect a spoiler alert? Wow. I'm sorry, but if you haven't watched it yet, what are you doing here?

RavenscraftCybernetics13 Jun 2016 9:33 a.m. PST

I predict Briene will soon face her book 4 cliff hanger.

Yea for the all 'we're in all new territory now' talk about 80% of the season so far has been book 4 and 5 events, just out of order from the original story….

Eight episodes in and you are wanting spoiler alerts? The world has moved on.

darthfozzywig13 Jun 2016 5:15 p.m. PST

I feel it was the worst episode of the series.

Disagree.

I do think peritonitis must not exist in this world, though.

Winston Smith13 Jun 2016 6:23 p.m. PST

Only Dothraki die of infections.

Or those it is convenient to eliminate. Arya will be around to the end. She's going to get better.

To be fair, I don't think Arya's wounds were that serious (in that her guts were not perforated) – the other girl with no name was vindictive and despite being told to 'make it quick' she wanted to prolong Arya's death – hence the shallow stabs instead of gutting her.

And – everyone knows daggers to 1d4 and she obviously rolled pretty low damage.

wminsing14 Jun 2016 5:30 a.m. PST

Exactly, 1d4 damage though it was definitely a sneak attack (so +1d6 at least), but on the other hand Arya's got to be like level 2 or 3 by now so she should be able to sink the hit. :)

This post contains a really major possible SPOILER. It contains information not yet in the series, do not read if this will bug you.

Tyrion has been basically useless since he killed his dad. The only scene he actually got to do anything was the dragon scene where he pulled off the shackles. Beyond that he drinks a lot and opines. He has a great future as a cable news political commentator.

Tyrion "drinks and he knows things" unfortunately he doesn't know near what he thinks he does. I have a feeling that Dany will not be amused by what Tyrion and Varys have done. He's been busy mucking stuff up even before he killed his father. After all he came up with the genius idea of sending Myrcella to Dorne.

I think Varys is off to Dorne to tie the Sand Snakes back into the story line.

Please God don't let Varys bring the Sand Snakes back into the story! That whole Dorne thing goes nowhere in the books or the series.

With Dondarrion still alive, Lady Stark is gone and not leading the Brothers. As they follow the Red God they will fall into the camp of Jon and Sansa eventually.

SPOILER ALERT!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Reports are that we are about to see Lady Stonheart for the first time.

I like the look on Danaerys's face. "What have you been up to while I've been away?"

I think she's going to be very angry when she learns justhow dumb her "braintrust" (Tyrion and Varys) is.

I'm not sure I agree with that; the show *already* deviated from the books before they ran out of book. Is Sansa going north to marry Ramsey now canon, and the book version of the same events not? I don't think so

The books and the series parted ways quite a while ago but I do feel that the series has now become the more important part of the franchise. With the diminishing likelihood that we will see "Winds of Winter" or "Gone with the Winter" or "Gone with the Wind plus dragons" or whatever GRRM is working on before next summer at the earliest the series has lept into the lead of providing GoT fans and ASOIAF fans (yeah, some folks get really testy about the names)with storylines and with the possibility that we will see an ending to this. Now this season was already shortened to 10 episodes and the next two will be 8 each but it's still a sure bet that it will wrap up before we ever get a book 7, maybe even before we get book 6. So yes, I think that it is and will be canon. Sansa married Ramsey, well, going by the stuff that GRRM has released in advance a major part of Book 6 is slated to be Sansa still masquerading as Alayne fooling around in the Vale with a whole new line of characters led by one "Harry the Heir". The series is starting to close up and neaten plot lines, GRRM who may actually take 8 books, not 7 to wind this up is adding in stuff seemingly just to muddy the waters. After Books 4&5 introduced all sorts of stuff that went nowhere I for one am happy to see the series move briskly along.

To be fair, I don't think Arya's wounds were that serious (in that her guts were not perforated) – the other girl with no name was vindictive and despite being told to 'make it quick' she wanted to prolong Arya's death – hence the shallow stabs instead of gutting her.

Yes, the waif obviously wanted Arya to suffer. Jaqen didn't seem all that upset by her death.

Spoiler alert? How about showing some consideration for the viewers who haven't seen this season yet? Thanks!

At this point I really think that any thread discussing this week's episode will have spoilers in it and really, don't read it until you are ready. Then by all means jump in.

Which are Varys mission?… Did he know in advance of the attack of Mereen?… if not… his little birds are not working well…

Personally I don't think that either Tyrion or Varys have a clue about what's going on.

Is the Blackfish really dead… or his men allow him to scape?

He's dead, even if he isn't he no longer has an army to help Sansa.

Question: If Cersei loses her trial, isn't Tommen declared a bastard and then no longer king??

I hadn't thought of this but you're right. If Cersei is found guilty then Tommen is illegitimate and he isn't King which means that Maergery isn't Queen and I'm guessing that then the High Septon will step in and take over (since there are no legitimate heirs). This may have been the High Septon's game all along. Cersei should have listened to the Queen of Thorns and gotten out while the getting was good. Maybe Jaime will show up with the Lannister Army in time to save her after she's found guilty but before she is executed.

Varys mission . . .

makes sense to me.

"Maybe Jaime will show up with the Lannister Army in time to save her after she's found guilty but before she is executed…"

But, the Lannister Army belongs to him or his uncle… which is also the "Hand"?…

He's dead, even if he isn't he no longer has an army to help Sansa.

The character you don't really care about that keeps escaping when you think he's dead, as opposed to another character you think is dead and WAS dead but is brought back to life like:

Dondarrion
Jon Snow
Catelyn Stark
The Hound
The Mountain

Who else am I forgetting?
