Hello, boys!

Over the weekend, I had put up some ACW figures for sale, to help generate funds for a summer miniatures painting class for our towns kids(ages 8 and up.)

I live in a very poor town in North East pa(Nesquehoning), and after my son showed some of our painted figures in class before they let out for the summer, his teacher gave me the idea to teach the kids. There is'nt much for the younger kids to do once school lets out for the year. We don't even have a town pool. Some kids go swimming in the Lehigh River.

I have the figures and paint covered, and I'm selling some of my unused gaming items to raise the money for some of the other things We will need, brushes and primer and the hall rental.

A number of members have offered to donate so I can go ahead with the project. And with Bills agreement, and on the advice of some other members, I would like to ask for help.

Toward that end, I would like to give, as a gift, to any who can help, sets of my Blood Bowl/Fantasy Football figures.
These are figures I designed and are sculpted by my friend, Rykar. They are monsters taken from the childrens book , Where the Wild Things are. They are also suitable for D&D type games, or monster skirmishes.

Set #1 includes Carol and Max#1. Set #2 includes Douglas and Max#2.
Set #3 includes Bull and Max #3 and will be available in September.

Anyway, if anyone can help, You'd be making a bunch of youngsters happy. I have more than a dozen already on the interest sheet, and I think my wife(who has a figure painting service) and I can get 30 in the hall.

My email address is:
lacourjohn@aol.com

I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and I can send anyone pics of my gift figures to anyone who helps us.My wife will also paint miniatures in return for donations, too. She has painted for several TMP members, and she can give refrences.

Thanks again. john

How can I help John? I live in western Canada.
Can I buy brushes and primer at your local hobby shop or Wall Mart?
Cheers, Thomas

If you could help, thanks a bunch! Contact me at my email if you'd like.

Thanks Mark!

And yes!I will keep everyone here updated on the class. Pictures included!

I'm very happy to say that out of the kids who have signed up, 5 are girls. And we all know that girls are better painters than boys!

Can't wait to get started. The first class will be Saturday June 25th.

@ John

I am involved with a number of extra-curricular activities for indigenous kids here. Apart from individual generosity (always welcome), we access government & corporate funding.

I guess I'm not telling you anything you don't know but the various layers of government always have funds a simple written submission will unlock. Government exists to help people: tell them what you need & what good it will do(in triplicate!) & you tend to get it.

Corporate is harder but if you promise sponsorship rights &/or media coverage you can find the purse strings untied here too.

Good luck with your marvellous work.

Yeah..This is a local thing for the kids.

Highly doubt the .Gov will help. Its just showing kids how to have a bit of fun showing their art skills in a new way.

I don't think corporations would even know what the heck I was talking about…

Thanks anyway.

This is a local thing for the kids.

Then surely your local government would help?

They collect taxes just for this sort of thing. Last year the city council provided a bus & driver and paid for the rent of a venue for us. Go ahead: ask.

For one of our bigger projects, SONY came onboard (this took a lot of effort, though).

John, I sent you an e-mail, did you get it?

Cheers,
Thomas

Is your email address also your paypal link?

john lacour14 Jun 2016 1:14 p.m. PST

Yes, Thomas,got it.

And the email is also the pay pal link.

I thank you boys for the help. Its gonna make the kids happy.Just returned from getting a load of primer.

The talk with the lady on town council went nowhere. Would'nt lower the fee, and was kind of a jerk about the whole thing.

My wife knows the woman from BINGO(every wensday night), so I thought I had an "in". Did'nt work out that way, tho.

She said "do you really expect kids to sit through a "class" during summer?"

What can you even say to that?

And Thomas, anything you care to help with, would be great. Nearest hobby shop is about an hour(hobbytown usa, allentown, pa) but if you can arrange something, awesome.

@ John.

You tried! If your project works & you intend to repeat the performance, do an evaluation. Get satisfaction surveys completed. Video & phoographic evidence. Costings. Invite the local media in & "mention" the difficulty in getting support from local politicians. Then use this material in a written submission for next year.

At any rate, your community needs you & people like you more than mine does me.

Hi John,

I sent some shackles directly to you through Paypal. Easier than you driving an hour.

Cheers,
Thomas

My wife and I wanted to thank all the members who have helped us with our painting class for the local kids in our town of Nesquehoning.

We are meeting Saturday mornings, 9:30 to 12. We have 16 kids, and we hope to get a few more, and continue the course into October.

To that end, My wife would like to offer her painting service to any member who can help us with a very modest donation. We are not looking for much, as the town, after seeing our success, has agreed to lower the rental fee. We have gotten the local pizza shop to help with lunch for the kids and drinks are provided by the chief of police, Sean Smith.

Shirley(my wife) has been working on a new site for her painting service(see link below), as the old one had poor photos. 3 members have sent her figures after donating, and she hopes they will give you guys a good review of her service.

Through local donations, and the generous help of members here on TMP, we have gotten near what we need to continue our class. We are in need of about $200 USD(as we raised near $600 USD so far.) Shirley would like to offer miniature painting(most scales, tho 15mm-28mm is her "sweet spot")in exchange for any donations(and if anyone would like to donate old/no longer used paint/brushes, that would be great. We can pay for shipping. contact us).

We thank you. The class has been a success, and we will be posting pics on the site. We have started the kids painting Pulp figures, and they have been a hit. We intend to change it up, and let the kids pick from my lead pile(LOL! maybe I can reduce the pile this way!). I have so much, they won't get bored, thats for sure!

So if you can help, we thank you! Its not much, but its giving back to our community and showing kids other ways to be artistic. Its been even more fun and less headaches then I expected.

If you would like to contact Shirley and discuss a donation for paintwork, you can contact her at:
lacourjohn@aol.com

The new site can be found at:
link

Thanks!
