Although really, if you're worried about spoilers you shouldn't be reading any GoT ASOIAF threads. Okay, there's this fan theory that there are 2 Aryas in last week's episode. Now I guess that we'll find out tonight but that's no fun, the speculation is what's fun (it's why here in the States "March Madness" is so much more fun that the College Football post season). Here's link to the evidence for the theory;

Fan theories are as good as lottery tickets the day before the drawing.
I read a truly moonbat one this morning giving all the evidence for the return of Lord Stoneheart. Robb. Not Lady Stoneheart, his Mum. Him what's got his head cut off.

I follow the Arya theory that Syrio Forrell is Jaqen H'Gahr. Did I spell that right?

I like the Bran/Robb/Jon theory that Bran witnesses in the past that Robb legitimized Jon in his will, so Jon is now Jon Stark. Like happened in the books. And Maege Mormont has been hiding in the swamps. Waiting for the right season and episode.
This might make things with Sansa and Jon a little tense. Unless they marry like true Targaryeans, which Jon is also. Hey, they'd be cousins, which among Royalty is hardly an impediment.

One of the nice things about the show is watching theories crash like a stone pterodactyl.

I'm not sure the spelling matters. Well, she did meet Jaqen in Westeros so there's that.

Robb legitimized Jon in his will, so Jon is now Jon Stark. Like happened in the books.

I'm not sure that Jon wants to be a Lord, after all when he was Lord Commander it didn't turn out so well. And I think that Jon will wind up in single combat with the Night King before this is all over. Jon of course could marry Dany, it is a Targ thing after all and wind up on the Iron Throne and he could then cede Winterfell to Sansa who could hold it as Queen in the North. Jon of course is an illegitimate Targ so Dany would have to legitimize him but they could rule together, maybe Dany will bring her bench from Meereen with her to King's Landing.

It's half the fun. Whether it "the White Walkers will turn out to be Humanity's allies" or "Arya will kill Jon or Sansa or Littlefinger or Tyrion" the speculation is great. It's one of the reasons that I now prefer the series to the books (although I am generally an avid reader), the books are all talked out and there are these theories that have been around for years but because GRRM writes so slowly they haven't been proved or disproved and it just gets tiresome. At least the series is moving forward. I also think that HBO does a good job of keeping their cast talking about the series even when it's not in season, many, like Emilia Clarke seem quite wrapped up in their characters and their fates.

I'm still a bit pissed that here it is season 6 and we are seeing the events of book 4 and most of book 5 seems to be cut from the show.

Winston Smith12 Jun 2016 3:31 p.m. PST

Forget the books. They are no longer canon. And GRRM has no one to blame for that but himself.
The show is now canon.

jowady12 Jun 2016 5:23 p.m. PST

Books 4+5 were basically just killing time anyway. We had the excursion to Dorne, Quentin and friends going to Meereen, fake AEGON and a slow boat ride, the Kettleblacks, the Manderleys, Victorian and his slow boat ride, fake Arya, some other damsel in distress whose name I forget and all stuff that went nowhere as far as the plot is concerned.

And, having watched it, your theory is full of that which makes the grass grow green.

And bang goes another fan theory.

Crashes and burns.

The reason we don't have a book 6 is because of all the pointless diversions from the real story that Martin started in 4 & 5. Too many threads to tie together.

The reason we don't have a book 6 is because of all the pointless diversions from the real story that Martin started in 4 & 5. Too many threads to tie together.

I think that Books 4+5 were themselves largely diversions. After all we had the sudden appearance of Dorne and all that stuff, Victarion, (fake) Aegon and his crew, Dany's "husband" (I forget his name), Lady Stoneheart, the internal politics of the Vale, the Kettleblacks and Company and the Blue Bard and Maergery's cousins and company, Brienne's interminable magical mystery tour, all of which we know goes nowhere because it isn't in the series and since the series and the books will both have the same ending…

I have read that GRRM originally planned for ASOIAF to be three books. His publishing company stretched it to 7 (some are even rumored to want 8). I think that four would have probably been right, perhaps five. If so he would have been done years ago. Instead here he is, in Book 6 of a 7 Book series and, with what he has released in advance, adding new characters. There will be a whole new line with some sort of internal intrigue in the Vale with Sansa (Alayne) being paired with someone named Harry the Heir (not to be confused with Harry Anderson's con man alias "Harry the Hat", now that would really liven things up). But again, since the show is now "canon" we know that none of it will matter in the end.

Meanwhile in the series Dany is back in Meereen and I don't think that she'll be too happy to see how Tyrion has messed stuff up or that Varys is off on some sort of secret mission in her name that she knows nothing about. Will Drogon quick fry Tyrion to a crackly crunch? I think the odds are low but possible especially if she learns how Tryion has been trying to corrupt Grey Worm and Missendei. But in the series people are finally moving, Dany's back and when and if Theon and company get to her, could be moving to the West. The Starks and company are moving to Wintefell. Jaime will probably be moving to KL and a showdown with the Faith. Is it any wonder the series has become "canon"?

The Iron Fleet doesn't know it yet, but they're sailing to the rescue. Just like at the end of Book 5, but with totally different commanders. "Yarrr! Is this a private battle, or can anybody join in?"

Winston Smith13 Jun 2016 10:21 p.m. PST

Speaking of theories crashing and burning, I guess that wasn't Syrio Forel in the shadows.

There was that odd moment at the end when Arya announced that she was Arya Stark of Winterfell and she was going home and Jaqen gave her just the slightest of smiles as if to say "my work here is done". Maybe Jaqen wasn't Syrio but Syrio was Jaqen. Or possibly they have nothing to do with one another and Syrio is long since dead.

When Arya pointed Needle at his chest and then he stepped into it a little bit giving that slight smile for me that closed the loop on if Syrio and Jaqen are the same person. Who better to train your daughter in fighting than a master assassin?

I don't think anyone will ever utter the lines that they are the same or will they take further time to explain it.

My two cents.

Winston Smith14 Jun 2016 7:20 p.m. PST

All I know is that briefly in an earlier season Jaqen and Syrio shared the same music. A leitmotif if you wish. If GoT were Wagnerian, that would mean a lot. But hey. It's TV. grin
