With the help of Chris Pringle, we prepared a scenario for the Battle of Kumanovo 1912, during the 1st Balkan War. The Ottoman Army of Vardar attempts to defeat in detail the 1st Serbian Army. This is the 5th scenario for BBB for the First Balkan War.

You can get it, and previous ones, either at the BBB Yahoo Group or at my blog.

Hurrah!

Thank you. Next up is Prelip which will be a mini-battle by BBB standards (1 ottoman corps with 3 depleted divisions vs. two of the massive 4 regiment divisions the Serbs use.) After that Bitola/Monastir and then a break.

After the Break Lule-Burgaz and 1st Chataltza and I think that is it for the 1st Balkan War. I expect to add four more battles after that for the 2nd Balkan War.

An interesting period of history. I've just started reading "The Balkan Wars" by Andre Geolymatos.

The Gerolymatos book had not impressed me much. Its an ok survey heavy in the sauce but not with much meat.

The following books in English are good for a good detailed history of the 1st and 2nd Balkan Wars

Richard Hall "The Balkan Wars 1912-1913: Prelude to the First World War"(good source on Bulgaria and Serbia)

E.E Hooton "Prelude to the First World War: The Balkan Wars 1912-1913" (general survey)

Erickson "Defeat in Detail" (detailed source on Ottomans, a must have book)

Army History Directorate, Greek General Staff "An Abridged History of the Balkan Wars" (uber-detailed history of Greek Operations.)

Yes, my impression is that it is a survey that covers a large time period, but I think it is important to know the history of the Balkans and how the collective history of the area impacted later decisions.

Thank you for the list of books to read. A couple of years ago I bought "The Balkan War 1912-1913" by Alexander Vachkov as well as the Osprey uniform book.
