For the first time I listened to the French national anthem. With English subtitles. It seem to only talk about arming the population. Massing the battalions. And most worryingly watering their fields with the blood of the impure…. So just a heads up, wouldn't turn my back on France anytime soon. |

Thanks for the heads-up on that. "Eternal vigilance", and all that. |

"deutschland uber alles" sounds a bit inflammatory also. :-) |

The only thing I have to say about that would get me DH'ed faster than Smokey picking up a girl at a Canes game. |

God save the King/Queen however, just seems to have it in for disloyal Scots! |

The French have neutered themselves so I wouldn't be too worried…at this point the national anthem is just a nice song that large segments of the population has no meaningful connection to. |

At least you could MARCH to "La Marseillaise"… And Goosestep to "Deutschland Uber Alles"!… "Il Canto degli Italiani" *IS* "Heroic"… "OH, Canada!" *IS* self-explanatory… BUT!!!… |

God save the King/Queen however, just seems to have it in for disloyal Scots! Nobody sings that pesky third verse anymore, mind you. It'd be nice if it were officially removed from the UK national anthem, though. Mind you, it'd be nice if lots of national anthems had a bit of editing done to them… Not likely to happen, though John T |

" a large part of the population has no connection to" Not know it, and even less the meaning, historical meaning of the lyrics. One cannot " edit " history; just explain it. |

"It'd be nice if it were officially removed from the UK national anthem, though." Or even better replaced entirely with something like 'Rule Brittania' or 'Jerusalem'. |

Don't worry, Gunfreak, old chap. We've been keeping an eye on them for centuries… (And I suspect the lyrics are aimed at us anyway!) |

"deutschland uber alles" sounds a bit inflammatory also. :-) Which is why the Germans rarely use it. And even less pfte the with the actual lyrics. But still claiming you are better then everyone els is still better. Then talk about massing battalions and watering the fields with the blood of the impure. (Are we sure Hitler wasn't actually French? ) |

"The French have neutered themselves" LOL. my minds eye shudders with this imagery, oh the shouts of french agony we would be giddy with glee. For me GSTQ is the national anthem of The UK and Jerusalem is the sacred hyme of the true English, Bless Her Majesty on this her 90th. |

I'm there every three months or so. I haven't detected any issues and with the current labor problems, their mobility is a bit restricted. |

My translation software makes it come out like this: The sons of France take liberties With the bodies of the dead I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. |

I was hearing the following : Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." Recently heard this also but from a more doubtfull source in the middle east…. What's in a name ??? |

Friend of mine interacted with some legionaries when he was in the marines. Said his first interaction was an officer breaking up a fight between two men, both badly bleeding from their face. Turns out one of them was the legionaries chaplain. |
