Hello all, I've recently begun assembling the troops for my 6 point Viking warband for Saga. As I see the pile of unpainted assembled figures grow, I realize my need for a storage and transport system for my figures. What cases/foam does everybody use or reccomend for their warbands? I ideally want a case with pick and pluck foam that is affordable, easy to acquire in the US, reputable, and customizable and that I can store a few warbands worth of figures in. Thanks!

I use the 80 figure hard plastic cases from Chessex. They are rugged, Protect figures extremely well, and easily stack on shelves for storage.

Instead of a case and foam, I just use "Really Useful" plastic container from Office Depot/ Staples then line it with a steel sheet from Hobby Lobby (40% off coupon) -- figures have magnetic bottoms.

I use the 9L size container as it is tall enough to allow 1 cavalry level with spears on the bottom then a "second level/floor" for unmounted units. Yes, that means 2 steel sheets and some small wooden rods for support columns to create the second floor.

I really like the stuff from Dave's baggage train.

I use them for my Bolt Action armies. I have two of the soft sided ones with various height foam trays.

I need to work this out as well, was thinking of a simple plastic box , place models, dump in sawdust to bury them, and go. Arrive. Pull them out (with help off a friend) put lid on saw dust box and play.

Canned air to blow before play of course but nothing would be damaged and the box would be really really light.

So far the problem I'm having trying to fit he figures into soft foam is that the spears on the figures are in fairly realistic posisitions (I.e. pointing towards the enemy and more "action poses" than simply vertical) and this poses difficulty trying to get the models to fit into pick and pull foam areas. I'm thinking maybe sheet steel and magnet may be the way to go? I just want the minis to be safe and sound to travel to play games, after all, I'm investing some time and effort painting the wee men. Any ideas that the TMP community has used/is using?

I have the same issue with the bayonets on my plastic Russians…

What works for me is to make a rectangular foam slot for them in the tray. I drop them in base first. then lift the foam out when ready to use…

This way I don't break the bayonets off trying to remove the figures.

I use Kaiser Multicase boxes for all my minis. I haven't got around to painting my Saga figs yet, but I have used the boxes and foam with plenty of WFB minis, many with spears at all angles.

I use plastic cases lined with egg shell foam from Tap Plastics for my Old West Miniatures. They are called tradesman cases and go for $15.25 USD USD. You can see them on the Tap Plastics website at

I can fit about 40 28mm infantry figures in a case.
