I recently decided to run a Superhero campaign and decided to try something a bit different. I had read the Peter Cline books about superheroes battling zombies. His story takes place near Paramount Studios after the outbreak and there are super villains mixed in as well. The superheroes can do amazing things but are held in check by the millions of zombies in the area, the villains and the need to protect the normal population within their compound. Cline's superheroes aren't dramatically different than others that exist out there but they all have well-defined motivations and several have interesting secrets and character issues.

I decided to instead base the campaign in our current city, looking on Google maps for the defensible base of operations. This gives the players an emotional investment that I hope will subliminally carry over into their playing of their characters. Cline's story reveals secrets about some characters that I will vary just enough that anyone who has read it won't be able to rely upon.

I plan on having the group's characters come back from the future where the zombie outbreak has overwhelmed all but one last base in the United States. Their mission will be to turn the tide at their current location while another two groups are sent to reinforce other locales. This could lead to encounters with the other NPC's who may or may not remain loyal to the cause.

I thought this was a good time to ask on the message boards about other campaigns people have ran that are perhaps based on books that they have read. This might give me ideas for future campaigns or even a new book series to check out.
