I was 7 years old when the invasion occurred, but got to see the newsreels every Saturday when I went to the double-feature cowboy matinee at our local movie house. I no longer thought this was some kind of "Buck Rodgers in the 21st Century" serial which accompanied the 2 movie; coming attractions; short subject; and cartoons – making the matinee a half-day affair! At 7, I was carrying aircraft air identification silouette cards, trying to spot German aircraft – and tried to enlist!

From earlier years, I still remembered "Ben Ghazi," and wondering what this guy did to have the Germans capturing him one week (before the US got into the war, and when I was about 4!), the British the next!
