One of my relatives recently found out he's not going to see another Christmas and while chatting to him on the phone the other week we talked about the things he wanted to do before it gets bad. (As a quick aside, one thing that struck me about the conversation was how unselfish people who know their number is up tend to be. The ones in my family have all used their energy comforting and reassuring those of us who will be left, as if it's harder for us than it is for them. It is very humbling to experience and I hope I can do as well when it is my turn.) Anyway, listening to his modest wishes mostly to do with tidying up hobby loose ends (boating in his case) made me think of my own situation. What would your hobby bucket list look like? I want to own a genuine Les Paul, put it through my amp and play it *#$&ing loud, but in wargaming terms I'm not really too sure. I'd like to get to meet Phil Sabin, Patrick Waterson and Simon Miller in person, so maybe a trip to the UK to attend a Society of Ancients battle day would be up there. It'd be nice to get in a game with my giant unpainted collection of Achaemenid Persians too, but that's probably something for another lifetime! How about you folks? Cheers, Aaron |

For me it would be finishing my 1-1 representations of the 20th Maine and 14th Connecticut at Gettysburg. Walk my Father's battlefields in NW Europe as well as visit Verdun and the Somme. Visit the Cruiser Aurora in St. Petersburg. |

First of all, condolences on your relative's situation – tough for all concerned Since you asked, I would like to go to Bovington and look at the tanks, attend Historicon (and yes, I have never been there), go to Nottingham and visit Games Workshop, Warlord Games, Cavalier Books and Wargames Foundry (see what they did with all that money I send them) and have a mega Napoleonics game with all my 6mm Napoleonic armies as well as mega SYW game with all my 28mm armies (I think I will need to rent a gym for that) Then I would like to label all my figs so that when I passed they would go to a good home – CC, I am looking at you here |

I would play like a child every chance I had. I would give my troops directly to those I thought would enjoy them most. I would make every event I could for as long as I could. |

Give all the toys away and make sure they end up in good places. |

I want to game "the poem" in 28mm where at the start of each player's turn he/she recites a favorite verse & the GM starts the game by pleading "Sing O' goddess of the bitter wrath of Achilles…" |

I'd like to see as many historical sites in Europe as I can. I'd start with Britain proper and move on from there. |

I'd like to buy a decent camera and lights and learn how to use them to get some decent pictures of what I have. I'd really like to have a larger house (one more room) so I could have a dedicated wargames space set up with table. There are a few bits I'd like to finish but suspect that will always be the case. I'd like to fly in the two seater Spitfire at Duxford. I'd like to drive the car I was very nearly born in - we still have it. Then there are some other car, fishing hobby and model railway things I'd like to achieve. Right now it's lack of funds that prevent all of these things moving a step closer. |

Paint a little in the morning and then go out to my garden bench and depart from there. |

Sorry to hear this Aaron, it is tough on all involved. Again, since you asked. 1. Go to Historicon 2. Go to Salute 3. Visit battlefields in NW Europe. 4. Give away or sell my collection 5. Drive a Morgan |

If you had asked me 20 years ago, it would have included "doing" HUUUUGE battles like Brandywine, Long Island, etc. Now, such extravaganzas just turn me off. Now I want to do all the small, just as important battles in the AWI. |

Visit Bovington Visit Port Arthur (Lushunkou) / Mukden (Shenyang) Visit the USS Wisconsin Visit Seelow Heights Get an actual miniatures gaming group together that lasts more than one or two sessions. I envy you club guys. (I've been fortunate to do a lot of the other stuff people listed above, but the items on this list have escaped me). |

Well, for buying I made up a multiple year list with one (and only one) buying target each month. Since the hobby is a "moving target" I always consider this a "almost final Draft" in nature. It goes from this month until December 2020 with breaks in April, November, and December every year (Birthday, and a two month break around Christmas.) Due to the formatting foibles of TMP I, alas, cannot post the excel spreadsheet here or I would to solicit feedback. Selling/gifting/trashing will be more ad hoc of course. Short term notice of "pending cancellation of eartly existence," aka death, would obviously change said plans. In that case I would focus on sending the miniatures to a good home and painting/playing with the last ones to give away closer to my expected departure. I would play miniatures war games as long as it was physically possible. Here is a much reduced idea of the spreadsheet. What "Target Date" "6mm Characters" 15-Jun-16 "15mm Gladiators" 15-Jul-16 "25mm Wood Elves" 15-Aug-16 "25mm Wood Elves" 15-Sep-16 "25mm Wood Elves" 15-Oct-16 None 15-Nov-16 None 15-Dec-16 25mm ELF 15-Jan-17 15mm TBD 15-Feb-17 Dwarf 15-Mar-17 None 15-Apr-17 Goblin 15-May-17 Goblin 15-Jun-17 Goblin 15-Jul-17 Goblin 15-Aug-17 25mm Dwarf 15-Sep-17 25mm Dwarf 15-Oct-17 None 15-Nov-17 None 15-Dec-17 25mm Dwarf 15-Jan-18 25mm Dwarf 15-Feb-18 25mm Dwarf 15-Mar-18 TBD 15-Apr-18 25mm Dwarf 15-May-18 25mm Dwarf 15-Jun-18 TBD 15-Jul-18 TBD 15-Aug-18 15mm Zorro and Presidials 15-Sep-18 15mm Soldados de Cuera and Indios 15-Oct-18 None 15-Nov-18 None 15-Dec-18 15mm SF 15-Jan-19 25mm ELF 15-Feb-19 25mm ELF 15-Mar-19 None 15-Apr-19 25mm ELF 15-May-19 25mm ELF 15-Jun-19 TBD 15-Jul-19 TBD 15-Aug-19 TBD 15-Sep-19 TBD 15-Oct-19 None 15-Nov-19 None 15-Dec-19 TBD 15-Jan-20 TBD 15-Feb-20 TBD 15-Mar-20 None 15-Apr-20 TBD 15-May-20 TBD 15-Jun-20 TBD 15-Jul-20 TBD 15-Aug-20 TBD 15-Sep-20 TBD 15-Oct-20 None 15-Nov-20 None 15-Dec-20 And yes the Sep/Oct 2018 items are speculative since they do not currently exist. |

I would love to have all my stuff assembled and painted so if any of the family wanted to keep on gaming with them (perhaps my youngest son and/or grandson) could us my figures and scenario. Or if they don't then they would be ready for sale so they could benefit from the money. Everything else in my live is good; I've done everything that is on my personal bucket list except perhaps see my grandchildren grow up. |

I would gather my closest gaming friends and we would game at the Wargames Holiday Centre in England. |

I would like to go to Salute and a few of the other shows in the UK someday. Have almost made it a couple of times, but had last minute schedule issues. I would like to write a set of rules that ends up doing well on the market (vain, I know). |

Hang with the friends I've gamed with for decades, play as many games as I could squeeze in, and let them know what an important part of my life they've been. I'd love to visit Agincourt and the Menin Gate near Ypres. I'd return to Savannah and Quebec, and remember how much fun we had the last time we were there. I'd paint as many figures as I could, in the hope I'd have more to give away to anyone that could use them. |

Visit Islandwanda and Little Big Horn. Spend the entire time of Historicon playing games. Play Freemans Farm at the Saratoga NHP. |
Old Contemptibles | 06 Jun 2016 11:49 p.m. PST |
Travel to Europe to visit battlefields and museums. Attend all the big conventions in the States and Britain that I have never had the time to. Visit all the ACW and AWI battlefields. Play in all those great games I see in the magazines. Write that book. What a depressing thread this is. |

Some great ideas there gents. Might have to adopt a few myself! Regarding my relative, it is very sad, but by all rights we should've have lost him 12 years ago, so the time we've had him with us since has been a blessing. Cheers, Aaron |

Take action today to make these thing come to pass. I once heard that "The living are just the dead on holiday". Enjoy your life while you still can. |
