Now posted to the ATKM site are the skirmish rules I've been working on for some time, variously titled "All the Queen's Men," "ATKM: Lite" or my personal favorite, "Some of the King's Men." You may have seen me playtesting them at various shows this past year. While normal ATKM is certainly capable of portraying small battles, I had an itch to apply its principles to a grittier, more personal kind of toy soldier affair. Plus, I love the fight scenes from "Last of the Mohicans" and wanted to get down to a man-to-man combat like that.
The free PDF is the written rules, designer notes, and all the charts in one place. The presentation assumes familiarity with the normal ATKM rules, but hopefully isn't complicated to follow. As "skirmish" suggests, the scale of these rules is small actions, typically fights that never made it to historical accounts, but that were no less important for harassing supply trains, ambushing scouting parties, capturing messengers, and basically fighting guerrilla warfare in the horse-and-musket period. While ATKM focuses on 54mm figures, any scale can be used with this game. Probably 28s or 40s for this kind of warfare. I hope you like these rules. Please email or post with questions or feedback. The rules are here: PDF link

Glad you guys like the looks of the skirmish game. Trident and Sash & Saber 40s would indeed work. Our 54s are available through the ATKM site at the following link. We offer AWI, War of 1812, Napoleonics and ACW lines, plus terrain. allthekingsmentoysoldiers.com The regular ATKM rules referenced in the new skirmish set are also available on our site as a free PDF: PDF link Ken ATKM |

Excellent set of rules. Have you tried playing them? |

Yes, have had the original hard copy for several years; use it for 54mm AWI and ACW. Ken had sent me the skirmish rules update several months ago. I find your question odd: do you routinely ask others after they comment on a thread like this or perhaps I don't understand the point of your question-? I don't comment on/endorse a product unless I'm familiar with it. |

QC: understood, but after 9 years of membership here, no one, till now, has posed a question like that after a comment I've made. Not an problem: I simply wanted to clarify and answer his question. |

I find your question odd: do you routinely ask others after they comment on a thread like this or perhaps I don't understand the point of your question-? You said "Excellent set of rules." and I wondered if that was based on just reading them or from actually playing them. |

Yup, Joe has been a good supporter of ATKM for some time, and got an early copy of the skirmish rules when they were in development. Joe, so you know, changes have been implemented in the latest version versus the one you got months back. I intend to suspend my usual inveterate rules tinkering now, though! Ken |
