Hi,

BG:

I've been trying to create custom 15mm German turret numbers, blue with yellow border. I'm using adobe illustrator to create them and printing them on an inkjet printer. The quality is horrible (not crisp at all and quick fuzzy), so have given up for the time being.

So I have two questions:

1. Does anyone have any pointers on how to get better quality.
2. If you use a custom decal company to produce decals for you, can you please reply to thread with their url.

Thanks

Step one: try printing (on plain paper) via colored laser at a print shop (Kinko's or similar). You may just need a better printer.

Thanks for the reply Extra Crispy.

I did all my testing on plain paper first and they looked pretty good. My printer is apparently very good, EPSON4823E4 (WF-3640 Series).

I'll send the file to a print shop and see what happens.

Looking at maybe doing them as dry transfers. Pricing could be an issue using custom colors outside of regular pantone colors seems to up the price substantially.

If it looks good on laser, then go in and re-print on your decal paper. If it works out great – you;re set. If not, you;re out a dollar or two and a sheet of decal paper…

Have you tried converting the numbers to outline before printing? If not try that first then report back.

I have used:

precisionlabels.com

Web site is a muddle. You must set-up exactly to his requirements. Quality is exceptionally good if you set the artwork up accurately. I have used others but the quality isn't as good. Not cheap but worth it IMHO.

Peddinghaus, the 1/87 range is worth checking or ask them directly because it is a bit difficult to find exactly what you want even though they probably have it.

Probably stupid suggestion, but I know I would go off and forget to check this: did you make sure to change the medium to the thickness of the decal paper or set the printer to accept the decal paper? If not that might explain why the printer prints the decals perfectly on the regular paper but blurry on the decal paper…each pass the ink could be being smeared ever so lightly by the printhead. Just a thought.
