…Tactics In The Atlantic. "Russia has stepped up its submarine operations and is regularly probing U.S. anti-submarine networks in a new "Battle of the Atlantic," the commander of U.S. 6th Fleet said. In an article for the U.S. Naval Institute's June issue of Proceedings, Vice Adm. James Foggo III outlined a new era in U.S. and Russian submarine warfare he dubs "The Fourth Battle of the Atlantic." In his piece, Foggo compares the current uptick in Russian submarine posture to the great submarine battles between the Allies and the Germans in World War I and World War II and the Soviets and the U.S. during the Cold War…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

And SOSUS hears them coming from halfway across the ocean… Unless it's a current generation diesel boat (or even some of the newer nuke boats). SOSUS (now IUSS) is not the be all, end all it once was. (It is 2016, gentleman. Not 1976…). |

The Russians have only a few subs and have a hard time building new ones. The Russian Navy is vastly outnumbered and outclassed. |

How many new-generation subs does the Russian Navy have, Charlie 12? Compared to how many 20+year old boats? And how much sea time have they had in the last year? Doesn't matter how quiet the boat is if the crew is dropping toilet seats and slamming hatches due to lack of training… |

How many new-generation subs does the Russian Navy have, Charlie 12? Certainly more than they did 20+ years ago… The point is that invoking a technology that is 30+ years old as the "be all, end all" is, at best, shaky. The fact is that the Russians are building better boats and are getting better at using them (if ever so slowly, thankfully). |

Russia has 1/5 the fleet compared to Soviet Union days, and can only afford to sortie perhaps half of this fleet. |
