"In the wide wild world of science fiction, there are films that come along and alter the entire genre forever, and leads to a new understanding of science fiction. We have that with Star Trek. Star Wars, and then in 1979, we got ALIEN. This dark sci-fi/horror film reset the entire genre and and forged millions of fans to the dark vision of the alien and its prey humans. It was nothing short of an revolution. Then in 1986 came one of the best sequels in science fiction of all time: ALIENS. That film became the favorite film of millions and the best military sci-fi of all time.Truly, these two films were masterworks of science fiction. There was nosebleed high hopes for the 3rd ALIENS film in 1992…but then we got ALIEN 3…and then ALIENS: Resurrection happened. After this, the once promising world of ALIENS became a cold, stale landscape of broken promises and bewildered fans. In this installment of Broken Promises, FWS will be attempting to explain what the hell happened to the ALIENS franchise…"

Love 'Alien' and 'Aliens' but I asked for my money back after watching the wretchedness that was the third film. That was it for me as far as the 'Aliens' franchise goes. I've caught a few minutes of 'Alien: Resurrection' on TV and it only confirmed my belief that the franchise had been run into the ground with no survivors.

I liked the third movie. The problem is that it came after Aliens at we were expecting a sulphuric bloodbath. Alien 3 did a great job of building an atmospheric world for the protagonists to survive in.

Resurrection was ridiculous though. AVP: Requiem shouldn't have been made.

Alien 3 was so-so, but Resurrection and the AVP dreck nuked the franchise from orbit.

Resurrection was a gamer's film. It's a dungeon crawl. I liked it.

A friend of mine had the following review of Alien 3 "A study in Mauve" and I think he had it 100% correct. Alien 3 is what happens when you let a star dictate the terms of a movie (Forest Gump is the other thing that can happen of course).

Alien Resurrection was stupid but watchable (once).

Aliens 3 killed off Newt. frown

I think the article had it right.

It was the requirement that Ripley be the protagonist in every movie that really started the death spiral.

I liked 3 a lot! A little ham-fisted, but a good flick.

I saw 3 in the theater and felt it was mediocre, but later watched the director's cut and it rose to the level of OK.

I can't say I liked any of the following films, but I might have liked AVP2 if it had not been filmed in the dark.

Ghostrunner04 Jun 2016 5:54 p.m. PST

AvP Requiem was almost like the filmmakers didn't want even the people in the theater to see their movie.

> AvP Requiem was almost like the filmmakers didn't want even the people in the theater to see their movie.

The advertisement showing pregnant women in the hospital getting the facehugger treatment is all it took to keep me from EVER watching the movie. If that is their idea of an enticement to see the film I don't want to know what their idea of a good film is. There are certain boundaries you just do not cross in the name of "entertainment".

AVP is set in the aliens time/universe by setting it in now time it was ruined.

chromedog19 Jun 2016 8:39 p.m. PST

The predator movies were set in our "now" time, too.

They've been hunters and hunting the xenomorphs for a loooong time.
Xenomorphs have also been around for a looooong time.
