That variable move bit can be very tricky when designing a scenario. My experience with Black Powder came from a Napoleonic scenario the Perry Brothers put on at Historicon. I had an infantry force and was to block a British force coming on the table at one end and holding the bridge. I had a cavalry commander to my left who refused to enter the field. I had to limit my movement because the enemy cavalry, if they rolled 3 moves could advance 54" in one turn. If I were out in the open when that happened it would be a very bad turn indeed. I'm looking forward to trying it in the Sudan, though, it can really[ make the Mahdists dangerous. |

Loved the double AAR. Only limited experience here with either BP and HC, though IIRC they have much the same mechanics. I 'love' having the command check for units to move, adds a total "what if" factor to the game. Hmmm, curious: While In Column, did each unit have to make its command roll to move, or was that based Only on the CO's roll. Just thinking, a unit in march column would get a slight edge in that, basically you just 'follow the fellow in front of you". Unless the CO fails his roll. "Then" in an attempt to save what you can, each unit makes an independent roll. Which could result in troops strung out from Harvard to Hades. |

Part time gamer- I could have just used the commanders rating to move the whole column but if he failed then the whole things stops moving I figured it was safer to get most of the units moving individually. and rules as written in BP they would get a bonus in column only if on a road. which is something Kati and I have thought about altering for Zulu War scenarios |
