Thank you very much! I have written previously on how I handle the bidding within the Polemos rules: link I have tried a couple of different adaptations of the Tomb for an Empire activation rules during the course of the campaign. So: Activity Point generation & the Strategic Initiative move remain the same Initially I randomized the AP bid and the bidding formation for each side. However, that wasn't entirely satisfactory because it seemed to hamstring commanders too much (too many APs wasted, hard to get enough APs to create depots etc.). So then I randomized the formation, but chose the bid. But I dislike having to make decisions for both sides at the same time in solitaire games, they end up as brain-hurting exercises in game theory. So in the end, I just settled for randomly picking the formation with a pack of cards and paying the AP cost. The twist here is that I have retained the "pass" mechanic: so three passes and that round ends, all formations with APs who haven't activated on that round lose a point and I start a new round. So formations who use too many APs to early will be vulnerable to formations which retain APs. But formations which retain too many for too long will find themselves losing APs from the other side "passing". And all formations which have 0 APs left automatically pass. Apologies for the above – hopefully it will make sense in outline to everyone, and in its specifics to those who have read the Tomb for an Empire rules. |
