Is there anyone that does Scottish tartan decals in 15-20mm ?

Can one really tell McKensie from Black Watch in 15mm?
Suck it up, Man! Paint it yourself and be a show off!

Just paint an impression of it – don't try to paint the exact detail. It's impossible to do so in scale on such small figures.

You often see tartan painted where the thinnest line in the real pattern becomes the thickest painted line so the thing is painted round the wrong way. For example, the pattern the Black Watch wear – when you look at the real thing the black disappears first as you increase the viewing distance so don't paint it – the impression you get is the overall green/blue. Focus on that. When I did them in 28mm I left out the black altogether and doing so enabled me the space on the model to get the blue and the green relationship and impression right to my eyes.

Not that I know of!

This is a handy site for painting tartan

For small scales as Timmo says, just do an impression of it – I normally start with a dark blue base, a green crossed patter and possibly a thin stripe of another colour. If the figures are Napoleonic or earlier bear in mind that natural dyes give subdued colours when compared with modern chemical dyes.

Trust me. I have never worked in 15m until I did that coach for Boney. I now have massive respect for folk who work in your scale!

They are all correct. I have the decals for Victrix Highlanders' kilts. Brilliant for 71st Lights so must get round to trying them. They are in my lead/plastic mountain.

But you must consider scale effect…for 15mm. I learnt this for 1/600 and 1/700 ships. If someone could get me a tin of paint fresh off HMS Hood (APC summat as I recall) I could not use it on a model that small.

The smaller stripes are like the whites of the eyes. They could not be seen.

I suspect you will ruin the effect if you try

Gasp! Sputter! Choke! Not put in all the stripes? " Can anyone really tell MacKensie (sic) from Black Watch in 15mm"? Where's my defibrillator?
