My wife and I played a Pulp Alley game this past weekend. Rather than having to pull out all the various terrain for a game I purchased a Cigar Box Battle Mat and some Gamemastery RPG terrain. It really worked well for the game.

Game report is here: link

The camps site terrain and the temple is from the Gamemastery pack (it has a sacrificial post and a river crossing too). Everything else is the Cigar Box Battle Mat, Europe 2.

The Battle Mat is great. Fantastic quality and very well made. I first played on a mat like this at Cold Wars this past March. There are actually pictures in the March 2016 posting on the blog. He mixed the battle mat with a bunch of 3d buildings and some other terrain to create the game.

The thing I like with the mat is that you can play with a heavily wooded area, without having the trees in the way. I have tried to play games with a heavily wooded area and end up with half the trees on the ground. This makes it a lot easier.

The Gamemastery pack isn't bad. Certainly not as good looking as a 3D model but not too bad looking. The quality isn't bad. I was surprised that they stayed in place during the game. I thought they would be moving all over the place.

I know that the mat will see action again. I have a few other scenarios in mind to combine with 3D terrain for some battles.

Nice AAR.

I prefer 3d scenery anyday, but for a quick game, pretty much anything goes.
