I know that Some French units switched over to a white coat for a short time. I read that this change was often incomplete. We're the new uniforms issued at a batallion or at a company level? Also, once they switched back to the blue ones was that done all at once or were individuals allowed to wear them out. I am trying to figure out if I should paint a batallion all white or with a mixture? |

see link I would either do a mix by battalions and / or company levels |

The 15th ligne? Wore them into Soult's invasion of Portugal. I'd go all white. |

I focus on the Peninsular War, and the 15th is one of my battalions, in white faced black. Only detail I have is of a grenadier. Rather dull, but part of my 2nd Division (drawn mostly from II corps regiments). Years ago, before I focused, I also did the 33eme de ligne – whit faced violette. Marvelous set of illustrations in the Bucquoy series of cards, with grenadier drummers and fifer; voltigeurs with all yellow plumes and brush epaulettes; sapeur; drum major; and others. Very smart unit, but never served in Spain. But it does in my 2nd division, standing-in for the 36eme de ligne, which was brigaded with the 2eme and 4eme leger at that time. GdeP |

There is a rather nice rendition of a voltigeur of the 15th by Gerry Embleton in 'Military Dress of the Peninsula War' Plate.1 illustration no.1.
