Grunwald – the pinnacle of the Age of Chivalry, and 1410 game changer for the history of East-Central Europe. – Thursday, 3:00 – 4:30 PM.

Do you like battles featuring knights in shining armor (OK a few had blackened armor) bombards, wagon forts, Tatars, and chivalric orders? Consider attending Greg Dryanski's dynamic presentation on the Battle of Grunwald (aka Tannenberg or Žalgiris), a resounding victory for the allied forces of Poland and Lithuania over their traditional foe, the Teutonic Knights.

Grunwald was one of the largest medieval battles, featuring an array of troop types both similar, and radically different from those found in the feudal armies of Western Europe. Tatar horse archers, Lithuanian pagans and very Christian Teutonic Knights make this very clear. Add a host of mercenaries on both sides, including soon to be famous Jan Žižka, and you have a terrifically interesting force pool for study, or recreating in miniature.

The battle was very up and down for both sides. So with Dryanski's presentation, gamers will have some great data for putting together a historical conflict where either side could end up victorious. Purists might ask Dr. Greg why he scheduled for 14 rather than 15 July – the 606th anniversary of Grunwald? Easy answer, there's a Polish-themes wargame on the 15th!
