See if you don't:

Excellent – what quality from those transparencies…! And those photographers knew how to shoot a posed shot…

If you Google or Bing 'Jack Whinery Pie Town New Mexico'
you'll find an LOC page with lots of Russell's photos
of the Whinery family and of Pie Town along with other
Depression era photo's, most in color

Those pictures are incredible. They look like they could have been taken yesterday!

#19 is a great shot of the gray-green herringbone fatigues, such as used in Tunisia.

Amazing. Very powerful, very moving, Heroism and tragedy in the same frame. Loved it. Thanks for pointing us to it.

Fantastic pictures thanks for finding these. Don, thanks for explaining number 19, I wondered what that uniform was.

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of all the Rosies, with make up, lipstick, shaped and painted nails, nicely curled hair, only one with gloves, nobody with goggles, many with jewelry. Was this the norm or are these posed shots?

Here's another little film with "American Patrol",this time showing more of those Rosies, and lots of WACS and WASPS. I hadn't seen this one:

I'm assuming all those gals were warned about having their pictures taken far enough ahead of time to get their make-up and nail polish on. Or maybe the photographer only picked subjects who were well turned out. Or both.
