"The US newest weapon, the railgun, is of no surprise to Moscow and Russia is also developing one of its own, the first deputy of the Russian upper house's Defense and Security Committee said Monday. MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier, the Wall Street Journal published the first pictures of the railgun, in development for a decade. Transforming a 25-pound projectile into nothing short of a battlefield meteorite obliterating anything on its path, the weapon does not use gunpowder or any explosives. It is instead powered by electromagnetic rails…."

What? You doubt your eyes? Just look at all the evidence Sputnik news has to give… from the working Russian prototype marked "BAE Systems" to their detailed illustration of how their railgun will work when mounted onto a Russian Zumwalt stealth destroyer! Makes one suspect the US stole their design! |

I'm sure the Russians can build a railgun. It's not that complex, mechanically or electrically. There's some fun materials science in building rails that will survive 500 shots before replacement, but that's just experimenting until you find the right stuff. Or until you can "acquire" the details from someone who figured it out before you… But the guys at Sputnik "news" need to do a better job Russianizing their imagery… |
