I do not deny there is (probably) an excellent location somewhere. But look through all the alternatives we've tried, and ask yourself how the next experiment is likely to turn out. (I see I hadn't even mentioned Fredericksburg's acoustics--or the Baltimore Convention Center at all. It's a long and depressing list.)
Yogibearminis, I am, on paper, half the distance to Westin that I am to the Host. But I skipped Little Wars, and I'll be in Lancaster three times. (Cold Wars, Fall In and The Weekend.) I've driven through Chicago before, and just couldn't bring myself to do it again. No doubt you'll get me eventually, but MUST you keep Chicago like some sort of minefield between the convention and the wargamers?
Let's recap. The LHRC has good acoustics and adequate lighting. Many of us can get rooms in the Host or in buildings so close we don't have to drive for three days. There's good fast food within half a mile and a restaurant in the building. It draws about half again as many dealers as Fredericksburg, and we can all find it. Don't compare it with perfection: compare it with the other sites we've tried. Anyone care to give Timonium another go?
But it's mostly emotional. All the others are a weekend in a motel room, and I don't like motels. When I'm at the Host, I'm home.
That said, I'm sure the new owners will fix the pipes and the ceilings. It's the squeaky air check at the "G" entrance I'm worried about. That they might miss.
