What was your technique? Looks really nice. |

Thanks, I am painting canvas with acrylics and a couple different sponges… I like the effect and the mats work great for moving figures on because they don't catch on the bases. |

That does look good. I wonder how it would work doing green and brown (earth and grass)? |

I have done various browns and greens…. Also winter.
This one is for a 28mm giant battle at Historicon.

Dervel, is that for a game at this upcoming Historicon? Looks fantastic, would love to see it in person. |

Thanks and yes, the big mat is for the Crusade 28mm battle at this coming Historicon…. I just finished trimming up the green ones and I have 15 more mats ready to go for Historicon. They are in various colors to support the demo events and the two campaigns. Hope to see you there. |

Those look great. Just acrylic on heavy canvas? |
Dervel | 31 May 2016 4:57 a.m. PST |
Yes, acrylic on canvas. There is a little technique involved in the painting and the treatment of the canvas to stop the edges from fraying…. Getting better with the process with practice :) Originally made these for DBA (because you can store and transport them rolled, but they are stiff enough to rotate)… Now I make them for Bolt Action, Triumph and other miniature games too. |

There is a little technique involved in the painting and the treatment of the canvas to stop the edges from fraying…. Do tell … |

The painting is just practice and playing with different layers…. that's hands on. The fraying – Modge Podge :) So one side is painted, and the other is coated in thinned Modge Podge. This is a process evolution and makes the mats stiff, but not too stiff while keeping the canvas from fraying. |
