Alright, we'll cover how to roll a scenario in NEIS.
Mind, you can just write up a scenario, old school, if you like.
But for players who like some unpredictable elements, the scenario generator should see you safe
Terrain
A roll on the jungle table gives us a single house and fields.
This is in the context of a platoon level fight, so we'll have a farm and the surrounding terrain, with patches of jungle near the edges.
A likely rebel hideout, no doubt.
Mission objectives
Since we're fighting rebels, our objective will be from the Occupation table.
We roll a 100, which means we'll have two objectives. Harsh.
Rolling again, we have to disperse the civilians in the area and then secure a terrain feature (obviously the farm).
Okay, so a basic sweep and clear. Get out any loyal citizens, then seize the farm.
Maybe the rebels are using it as a weapons cache?
Forces available
The roll here gives us a single squad. Ouch. We'll have our platoon NCO tag along, but I guess this is a skirmish action.
Then again, its just a farm house. No need to send an entire platoon I suppose.
I had originally decided on 6 man squads, so we'll attach another guy from one of the other squads, giving us a bit more to work with.
Arrival
(I stole the idea of an arrival table from 5150, thanks Ed!)
We'll arrive by some sort of transport, which will stay in support of our troops.
I'll say this is a beat-up M113 with the .50 cal machine gun. Seems like an appropriate choice of support for our squad in any event.
Normally, we could roll for the enemy forces as well, but I'll make it quick and just say the farm house is being held by 5 rebel soldiers, with one RPG to their name.
Support
We'll just roll a single support choice. The dice give us a 4 man scout team, armed with rifles.
For flavour, we'll say these are western "advisors" who are definitely, certainly not on in the country. For real.
Complication
Nothing ever goes according to plan.
A roll gives us "The Map is wrong!".
After setting up, our squad gets moved a bit, since they read the directions wrong.
Told you we should have taken the SECOND left, Sanchez. For crying out loud.
That took about 3 minutes, and we now have a quick and easy scenario to play through, with barely any prep work.
The system would translate fine to any other wargame rules as well, of course.
