"This authoritative account of the 105-day war between Finland and the Soviet Union in the early stages of World War II focuses on the human side of the story, particularly the bravery and heroism of the Finns who fought the Red Army tenaciously and held out far longer than anyone expected. With overwhelming superiority in men and equipment, the Soviet Union invaded Finland in November 1939 but soon bogged down against winter conditions and fierce Finnish resistance. Finland was finally forced to surrender in March 1940, but not before impressing the world with its efforts and highlighting the weakness of the Red Army."

It's OK, but it's dated--it was originally published in 1973. A torrent of information came out of the Soviet archives during the period of openness, which really revised our understanding of events.

The book is very pro-Finnish, so you have to take it with more than a grain of salt. The problem is that it's least accurate on the political background and on the details of the individual battles, and best on the overall campaign. If you just want an overview of the campaign, there are lots of other sources--even Wikipedia.

Mark Mokszycki's recent game Red Winter shows how much research there has been since then (it includes a lot of original research as well). (Red Winter covers the battle of Tolvajärvi.) Here's the Playbook that includes the absurdly long Designer's Notes as well as the Historical Notes PDF link
