"Ever since U.S. President Barack Obama decided to send 250 more Special Forces to the Syrian battlefield against the so-called Islamic State, they've been easy to spot on the front lines in Hasakah, Tisreen Dam, and near Raqqa, the capital of the "caliphate" that's also called ISIS, ISIL, and Daesh. In a base close to the town of Ayn al-Issa, U.S. soldiers are not only advising, they are also assisting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) very closely in targeting ISIS positions with mortars and laser guided air strikes. They are not on the front lines, only in training and support roles as mentioned many times by the president and his office. |

They are also tip-toeing around barefooted so as not to give the impression of "boots on the ground". |

"Boots on the ground" entails large-scale troop deployments in the tens (or hundreds) of thousands. A couple hundred special operators serving in an official advisory capacity and supporting local units in combat doesn't really count as "combat" to the Administration. It's all a matter of spin, er, I mean perspective. |

I thought they were given military-issue flip-flops, or sandals, so as not to hurt their feet on sharp stones, or hot sand……. |

""Boots on the ground" entails large-scale troop deployments in the tens (or hundreds) of thousands." Officially, it is anything over 537 men or any combination of 586 men and women. However, there is a select, cross-service committee working back channel to update the quantity for inclusion of robotic life forms. |
