Hi guys, I have some organization questions for 1989. Had the West Germans converted from three batteries of 6 to the two batteries of 9 by 1989? Had the GSFG converted to the 24 gun battalion by 1989? Had the Soviet motor rifle company dropped the machine-gun platoon by 1999? Thanks. |

All I can find is the 8 gun Batteries in Heeresstruktur 5N which I believe is post Cold War, the 9 gun battery is post 2000. link link |

NATO order of Battle has 18 gun battalions. Armies of NATO's Central Front indicates that German batteries were closer together than other NATO countries. I'd wager they still did the 6 gun batteries. |

Reading from tankograd, 1985 was when the order to change was given. 1 battery was removed and the remaining 2 batteries changed to 9 spg. Not sure what the timeframe of implementing the order was though. Edit: found the section. The armoured artillery battalion of the brigade dissolved its 4th battery and consisted, concerning "Artillery Structure 85", of two firing batteries with nine 155mm self propelled howitzers |
