In the classic Star Trek two-part episode, The Menagerie, the aliens eventually imprison Captain Pike with three women, hoping he will choose one to mate with.

Which actress did you think was the most lovely?

Susan Oliver (Vina)
Majel Barrett (Number One)
Laurel Goodwin (Yeoman J.M. Colt)

Wasn't this pulled earlier? I assumed because too many folks were creeped out. Personally I think it's weird but harmless.

Seems pretty harmless to ask which of these ladies were lovliest (especially since it was what, 50 years ago?) Laurel Goodwin to me was the cutest of the three. Susan Oliver had that look like waking up next to her would lead you to regret and then annoyance (I got a strong Glenn Close stewing the pet rabbit vibe from her), and I never found Majel Barrett attractive- she had that 'Angry Aunt' look.

Susan Oliver's "vibe" was simply her strength. Off camera and after her acting career (which was a decade or more), she was a successful business woman and a certified pilot.

An intelligent, "self-made" woman, she may have seemed scary only because of her independence and the obvious ability to choose the man of her choice--and not one of us!

I'm sorry are we talking about the actress as the character, which the original question implied, or the real life actress?

I respect the hell out of both Susan Oliver and Majel Barret. They were both VERY strong women who got what they wanted in life and pushed hard to make it happen. Hell Majel Barret was a hard charger who worked very hard to gain opportunities for herself in a Hollywood very unfriendly to women who wanted to take charge. She's was a together, amazing woman. As was Susan Oliver.

I thought we were talking about the attractiveness of these ladies as these characters, though. Silly me, I thought this was just a harmless question of attraction, not a call to arms on strong women.

Hell, if you ask me about attractive male actors, can I comment on that as well? Hollywood sells attractiveness and there are whole industries devoted to discussing who is hotter- despite their sex. I'm not gay, but I have no problem saying that I thought 1960's William Shatner was a hunkier guy than Jeffrey Hunter, but opinions are like back ends- everyone has one.

Hell, I am in love with Louise Brooks, but she was born in 1906, and died when I was 17. Am I allowed to find her attractive?

And don't get me started on Diana Riggs. I fell in love with her when she was an Avenger and a Bond Girl and still find her hot as Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones. She's old enough to be my grandmother, but I don't care. She's lovely.

And before anyone says, "I'm sure you're no plum yourself," yep. I fully accept that.

Why aren't there pictures, or at least links to pictures??

Am I expected to either know who they are or to have to Google them myself??

That's almost as ridiculous as the fact that typing out this response probably took me longer than Googling them would have!! ;)

I always liked Laurel Goodwin's character!

This is kind of like a "Ginger or Mary Ann" question. Although Vina was supposed to look sexy in the short-short dress and scoop front, I find Yeoman Colt more desirable to spend my life in a menagerie with.

Laurel Goodwin

Don't forget that the lead alien is also an option! Meg Wyllie (though to be honest, as a kid, her in that get up scared the willies out of me).

The one on the right with the big hooters.

I am a Star Trek Fan but don't remember much about the episode as not I've watched the series for about 18 months.

Always Majel Barret no matter who she played. I met her once. She was very nice.

Laurel Goodwin, of course.

Then again, if they are offering a fantasy to live out, why choose?

Susan Oliver…without a doubt.
