I am looking for 28mm miniatures of Southwest or Plains indians armed with "traditional" weapons, such as bows, tomahawks, spears, whatever. It seems lke every line of indians is armed with rifles, and I want to game pre-gunpowder. Any help is appreciated. |

Conquest does some open-handed Comanche with a sprue that has pre-gunpowder weapons & a sprue that has spearheads, you'll have to provide the shafts. |

Wargames Foundry has a number of packs of Plains Indians without guns, and in those packs that do include guns, most of the figures are without guns… probably 2 figures with guns to 4 without. |

Old Glory 25s has a number of Plains Indians packs in their Historical/Warpaint line… most aren't carrying guns. |

The Old Glory Plains Indian packs tend to be a 50/50 mix of figures with firearms & figures without. The Apache packs have a higher ratio of figures with firearms. |

Order and ask for Indians without guns? I'm not at the factory right now so can't look at the molds, but I believe if you get the war paint half body figures we could do that? Regards Russ Dunaway |

To me "pre-gunpowder" Indians is 1680 at the latest. That said a set without winchesters, revolvers, and rolling block carbines, even in "larger than 18mm" sizes would draw my attention. Yes, 15/18mm would be ideal but I think the OP point has merit. |

Matchlocks and trade muskets made an appearance very early and were popular status weapons shortly thereafter. |

Yes, I also believe that the natives discovered guns pretty quickly and took a serious liking to them. I believe the Indians at the Little Big Horn were better armed then Custer and his boys? Regards Russ Dunaway |

Russ, sort of. the cavalry carbines where all .45/70, so a very powerful weapon. The Natives had a lot of repeaters, so more firepower, but not as much range and stopping power. we learned all of this after the battlefield burned some time ago and they got to do a very detailed search of the ground. owen |
