Been listing the different types of aircraft which operated on the Great lakes training carriers USS Sable & Wolverine.
I have come up with SBD, F4F, F6F, TBF (&TBM), F4U, SNJ and The Naval Aircraft Factory TDN.
Can anyone think of others and could there be photographic evidence?

It's possible that the Glenview Hanger One Foundation might have some records.

the aircraft all flew out of Glenview Naval Air Station.

More then 116,000 landings and takeoffs with 15,000 to 17,000 pilots qualifying and only 130 to 200 aircraft lost. I guess the navy got it's moneys worth out of these coal fired paddle-wheeled carriers.

Brewster Buffalo (very short career aboard) and the
Buccaneer.

Hi Ed – Do you have any references, photographic or otherwise, especially for the Buccaneer?

The SB2A Buccaneer (RAF Bermuda, USAAF A-34)

Unsuccessful competitor to the SB2C Helldiver, though 140 were ordered off the drawing board and the Navy took over 162 ordered for the Netherlands East Indies.

The RAF took only 468 of their order for 750, some of the rest were used by the USAAF as instructional airframes for mechanics. The Australians originally ordered 240, but cancelled them in favor of the Vultee Vengeance.

Probably only the 60 SB2A-2's were carrier equipped.

maybe someone can help me out with this photo, what are the words on the building and was this taken up at the great lakes training facility? My dad is on the 3rd row from bottom on the left, he wound up being an AEM2C (aviation electricians mate) aboard the USS Ommaney Bay CVE-79
thanks

A SB2U Vought Vindicator was recovered from Lake Michigan, restored and is on display at the air museum in Pensacola. A program on the public broadcasting network detailed the life of the 2 carriers and efforts to retrieve wrecks from Lake Michigan.
