I have been painting 6mm and 15mm figures for many years. I would like to try some 25mm figures for something different. But, I don't know what manufacturers' figures I want to start out slow with maybe 10 figures to start. Could someone please let me know what figures you use and why? Thanks, Joe |

Joe: I have a bunch of 25mm ACW from Architects of War I'd sell you cheap. Very colorful and animated figures. More interedting than 10 guys marching. PM me or mark@scalecreep.com |

I am currently painting Sash & Saber figures, they are great sculpts and paint up beautifully. Cost is great too. |

I have used Dixon, Foundry, Perry, Old Glory and Renegade For starting off Perry are hard to beat although the Foundry are also pretty good You might want to get the Perry ACW plastic set – not too expensive, reasonable figs and some variation you can build in |

Redoubt are fantastic sculpts with heads swoppable too, don't know in what condition their molds are though. I'd start off if I was you with a box of Perry plastics first though, you might end up doing the whole lot in plastic(I'd go that way if I had to start from scratch now) enjoy the move in a new scale and period. |

I'm a bit of a Dixon fan myself, they paint up easy in my opinion and you can choose to buy them in singles and not packs which is ideal if your just starting out. You will find they do not mix in well with other manufacturers but with the amount of choice that's on offer from Dixon then that shouldn't be a problem.

I have Dixon, Perry, Old glory, Foundry, Sash & Saber and some other makers. I would recommend Foundry because of the variety and character they have in their line. All have good qualities but that line just seems to have an edge. |

Old Glory for animation, character, variety, selection, and price. (Get your Army Card)

I like Perry and Foundry the best. Sash and Saber is okay but IIRC all of them have packs. Dixon can be interesting but they tend to run small but they have a terrific variety. Redoubt is okay but their figures tend to look, shall we say, extremely well fed. Old Glory can have some bizarre ideas about anatomy. First Corps is also good. |

Architects of War had a "pulpy" ACW game called Uncivil War. their figures reflect this and are useful for adding color to your ACW games. They also make great additions to Old West settings, and possibly into the 1890s in some cases. Most packs have 6+ figures and are marked down to $6 USD/pack. I will see if I can find pictures somewhere. Here is a list of the packs I have left:
- Blown By the Breeze (1 Avail). Three ladies, two gentlemen and a maid.
- Saw Bones & Medics (2 Avail): Field hospital vignette
- Damn Dirty Yankees (3 Avail): Union looters, one fryin pan armed "marm."
- Chickens and a Fox (1 Avail, $3 USD)
- Ragged Rebs Skimishing (1 Avail)
- Ragged Rebels Marching (3 Avail)
- Sons of the South (2 Avail): Heroic southern officers/personalities
- Despicable Deserters (3 Avail): Soldiers living to fight another day
- Fearless Federalists (2 Avail): Heroic boys for the Union
- Sofa and 2 Lounge Chairs (2 Avail)
- Union Skirmishers w/Repeaters (4 Avail)

Old Glory easily. Cheapest and I love their advancing poses. If you want boring right soldier shift poses go with Sash and Saber. I guess a lot of ACW gamers like that pose. 💤 I am not that crazy about Foundry or Perry ACW though I love Perry Sudan figures. Overall , Old Glory is the easy winner. |

Sash & Saber have both right shoulder shift marching poses and skirmishing/firing line listings as well. I use both (in different units) to add variety. |

Dixon miniatures are excellent and there is a huge variety of poses. I use them for Sharps Practice skirmish rules. Perry plastic 28mm figures are good and worth considering. |
