Hi, perhaps a few among you still remember a thread I opened some weeks ago, sharing the results of my first attempt at painting 1/450 scale sailing ships from Peter Pig (theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=414898). Someone suggested there that some supplementary work on bases would greatly enhance the ships overall look. So I took note and gave a try to it. I was unwilling to lose time and/or put models on risk at experimenting with texturing stuff I didn't already know, so I've just done a quick, easy job of color shading by brush.
I just repainted bases plain black, and then started scattering layers of progressively brighter blue, as a sequence of successively smaller patches.
As said, no masterly jobs there, just a bit of patience and plenty of time. You were right Sirs, even such a simple method can improve the thing a lot! Thanks, Lluís |

Lluis, Looks good, but I'd suggest a touch more white on the crests of the bow waves. Jim |

…so as to emphasize waters breaking? It sounds logical, I can do it. I assume it should be no more than some sparse little white dots right where bow breaks through, is it? |

Lluis, I'd suggest you look at some pictures or videos of sailing ships under way to see what the colors of the bow waves and wakes are. Jim |
