From people that have played the game:

The miniatures look fantastic and are a great supplement for what is available. GW, though still very expensive, might be finally on the right track in rebuilding their business model after abandoning it for the last several years under Kirby.

They have certainly been doing a lot of the things that people have criticized them for not doing. People complained that the rules were too expensive, the rules are now free. People complained that the entry cost for starting Warhammer was too expensive, the starting cost for an army is now $85 USD for most armies.

They wanted Space Hulk back. Space Hulk is back. They complained that they weren't releasing games like Warhammer Quest, Warhammer quest is back.

People wanted plastic 30K models, there are now plastic 30K models in an affordable format.

Warhammer quest is back.

No Age of Sigmar Quest is here it is not Warhammer Quest.

Have you actually played it? If not how do you know whether it plays like WHQ or not? Besides, the box calls it Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower so Warhammer Quest is good enough for me (as a proud owner of the original plus all the boxed campaign and character sets they released for it).

Just because GW calls it Warhammer Quest does not make it Warhammer Quest.

Oh and yes I do own the Original Warhammer Quest and have played it many times.

Age of Sigmar Quest I will never play.

"Age of Sigmar Quest I will never play." GW hasn't announced plans to make an Age of Sigmar Quest. It is possible that none of us will ever play it.

All that aside:

"Just because GW calls it Warhammer Quest does not make it Warhammer Quest."

That is exactly what makes it Warhammer Quest. Do you really think we should take your word over the people that hold the copyright and produced the original?

I'm not sure if you hold some type of degree in Warhammer. Perhaps you do, that might make you qualified to make such a pronouncement. But if you haven't played the new version yet then your previous experience is somewhat irrelevant.

Pictors Studio…. It really and truely is so much easier to just ignore him. Same old broken record for years on end. For your on sanity let it pass like the hot, not so fragment wind, it is. ;D

Yep I just ignore certain persons on TMP because they have nothing new to say and just rehash the same tired arguments. I looked at the display box of the New Heroquest at my local game store and I have to say it is a beautiful stand alone game. If I still played old school Warhammer I would be tempted to buy it just for the Tzeentch Beastmen which was something GW kind of never developed as a viable range. Khorne and Nurgle beastmen got all the love but Tzeentch and Slannesh got left behind except for the early sculpts which are difficult to find now of days.

I think one of the things GW is doing right as of now is coming out with all the stand alone "board" games. They are once again showing their business savvy but hitting on multiple markets. Some folks will buy the board games because they like board games and the cool factor and high production values of these sets. Considering that most board games that are coming out on the market are hitting the $100 USD plus mark this set is not priced too high. Of course the other market share are Warhammer and 40K players who will most likely both play the board the game as well as use the miniatures for their other games.

I assume what he means is that it's not set in the Warhammer World. The first WHQ was set in the Warhammer World which has now been destroyed; Silver Tower *looks* to be set in the Age of Sigmar, judging from the Stormcast Eternal front and centre on the box art.

Of course, "Warhammer" is a fairly generic prefix, and the Fantasy Battles setting never got its own subtitle to help distinguish it – but that is I think what was meant. By the standards of whether or not the title includes "Warhammer", 40K is Warhammer; Age of Sigmar is Warhammer; etc.

How relevant that is largely depends on how involved you want to get in the RPG side of things. WHQ was always largely about dungeon-bashing but there was room for roleplaying outside that, and at that point it makes a big difference whether the setting is the Warhammer world or whether it's Age of Sigmar. It also affects whether your character is an elven ranger fighting orcs or an Aelf Dreadbow fighting Orruks. It likely doesn't have an effect on the rules, but to those who care about flavour it does make a difference.

Yes. GW's using the phrase as a marketing gimmick to generate interest.

Gameplay's different, with a dice allocation system, rather than the usual "die roll + modifiers". See the BGG threads.

This reddit comment answers my concerns: "For all its decks and random dungeons the Campaign is painfully obvious. Replayability of the campaign is not so great IMO, and each time you play it you will probably be starting from scratch."

And this was an interesting point: "No real progression system. The "Skills" and Magic Items tend to get lost from game to game. But considering how the dungeon difficulty is based around how many skills you have… (lets just say that a few 1's on the Destiny Dice arent so bad for new warriors but for guys with Skills its deadly)"

I just don't like the look of this new version.
