Hey Guys,
So there is a guy in the club who has Byzantines and I plan on raising Sassanids in 28mm
But we need a set of rules.
He is an Old Gronard, so the rules have to allow the Byzantines the abilities they had historically or I will hear about it throughout the game.
I on the other hand, prefer rules that are a bit 'easier', I don't want to spend half the game looking up rules.
Any suggestions.

Impetus? Sword and Spear? I think both will do the trick.

Armati 2, is a good choice. Army lists reflect characteristics.

L'Art de la Guerre is a great set of rules that would take care of all your requirements.

I am pretty much a DBA 3 and Impetus sort of player these days, but I agree with wrgmr1 that Armati does bring out the characteristics of the period quite well …

Impetus for me, but the best Warhammer Ancient Battles book was the Byzantine one.

WAB – Beyond the Golden Gate. Lovely book to read and game with!

Sword & Spear would be my choice; but the armies will pretty much double-up for Armati or Impetus, and depending exactly how you base them no doubt other rules as well.

What Dave Toone said.Barring that, go with Comitatus.

Thanks,

Pat

WAB without any doubt.

Tactica or Armati

Funny, I always thought the WAB Byzantine book was among the weakest…

It's great if you play 'in period' with armies just from the supplement, which is how they were ideally supposed to be used I believe. I think trying to play with out of period match ups is a no-no for Beyond the Golden gate, with all it's supplemental special bits and bobs!
