… Off-Road Toy.

"We already know the Oshkosh JLTV will be replacing the U.S. military's iconic Hummer for general mobility, but apparently there's still a gap in the motor pool for fast and light tactical transportation. It turns out the Army may end up with the same buggy you can buy at your local powersports shop.

Bloomberg is reporting that some 600 paratroopers from the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne will land in Poland next month for what Army Colonel Colin Tuley described as a "joint, forcible-entry exercise." About 1,000 British and Polish paratroopers will join the Americans.
And on this training run they will be evaluating the Polaris MRZR. It's an 875cc Side-By-Side (SxS) Utility Task Vehicle (or Utility Terrain Vehicle/UTV) that the Army is hoping will serve more as a foot-solider supplement than a standalone attack truck…"

Messed around with one of these at the Army aviation Quad-A show a few weeks ago in Atlanta. Was Neet-o Mosquito!

I got to laugh when I see the silly Rat Patrol like poses on light unarmored vehicles. Anyone shooting will probably be shot at and these guys will never be able to move fast enough to get out of the way of bullets coming their way. Still the image sells the vehicle (and better yet the civilian versions!)

At least there's room to drape the whitetail over the hood after a days hunting.

Or [former] Deash/AQ alum. Like Patton did in 1916 when he dropped one of Villa's leaders … over the hood of his Model T, IIRC. evil grin

For what it's worth, those little side-by-side ATVs are about the same overall size and gross weight as a WW2 Jeep or Kubel/Schwimmwagen…

You wouldn't believe how capable those vehicles are in areas with bad or no roads. I wouldn't like to receive fire in one, but they certainly have a role.

You know that the army has already gone the Dune Buggy route before back in the 1980's and they killed it off.

Because they did not like the fact that a small Light Weight vehicle could kill a tank, (they was a TOW mounted version).
