Does it matter to you how well painted smaller-scaled miniatures are on the table? For the sake of this poll, we'll consider "smaller scales" to be 15mm and below. (a) No, they are all so small, it doesn't really make a difference to me whether miniatures in these scales are well painted or not. (b) Yes, but only in 15mm, anything smaller is really too small to make a difference on the table. (c) Yes, but only down to 10mm, anything smaller is really too small to make a difference on the table. (d) Yes, but only down to 6mm, anything smaller is really too small to make a difference. (e) Yes, it matters to me whether miniatures are well-painted in any of these smaller scales. (f) ____________________ |

It always matters but I point out that personally at smaller scales appropriate scenic basing is also incredibly important. |

What does "well painted" mean? It is very hard to do minute detail on small figures, but I do attempt to get the overall look and tone right. My 2mm figures all have hands and faces. Whether that makes them well painted I've no idea. |

B – I like 10mm because you can't see the detail so they are quick to paint- if you are painting eyes and buttons on 10mm and smaller you are nuts… |
Mute Bystander | 24 May 2016 6:07 a.m. PST |
Some details are too small for the return on effort (well, for me,) at 6mm or 3mm. I believe at that level (unlike 15mm where skirmish is easily accepted by many) mass formations makes all the belts/straps to figures internal to mass formations truly optional. I do skirmish with 6mm but not all details get the same level of effort as at 15+mm sizes. |

So, depending on how you define the "well painted" term, E. |

It's a sliding scale. I don't expect the same level of detail on 6mm as I would on 54mm. I say this as a man who used to paint the black dots of pupils inside the colored irises of eyes on 15mm Ral Partha sci fi figures. |

Stupid poll – of course it matters and 15mm isn't smaller in almost anyone's books … So, pandering to the prejudice for a moment … E Actually, as someone who collects from 2mm to 90mm figures, it is the larger scales where painting matters less. With, say, 54mm figures, the skill required is pretty basic as the figure itself (and how the light plays on it) does a lot of the work for you, whereas with, say, 6 or 10mm figures you do need to paint well and with care to get a good effect. Phil PS … that said I always like the way other people paint their figures so it is 'all good' to me (so the concept of well painted is just another bogus pot boiler) … |

Skirmish players are painting a soldier, 6mm players are painting a squad. Different strokes (literally). No reason that one is less artistic than the other. |
